I can relate to the negative self talk. I had always swore I would NEVER let this happen if I could just get the surgery and was able to be given this opportunity to be slim. And yet, here I am, once again over weight! Ugh. But we are trying!! We may stumble but we will succeed in getting  healthy and fit once again! Together we will support each other.

I have not had to deal with a family gathering yet during my re-losing. In the past while I was still losing for things such as this or weddings I tryed to just find the lean meats there (no buns or breads) and cheese platters. And like you, I kept my mouth busy talking!! lol It's a great time to socialize and that will be and should be your main focus. Best of luck and ENJOY your daughter!!! Have a great day.

I have been writing down everything I eat but I don't count calories. I just have cut out carbs (with the exception of carbs from veg) and no sugar at all (with exception of honey) and as long as fat grams are less than 5 per serving. I have thought about getting a picture of me at my highest weight along with one from me at my lowest next to each other as a motivator to eat healthier. I may do that now since you said you feel it does help you looking at where we no longer what to be! I'm trying not to think of how I'm eating as a diet, but I am a all or nothing person so I have to work on knowing there will come a time I eat something I shouldn't and that should not be reason to completely fall of the 'wagon'! I just have in the back of my mind all the time that I am trying to lose weight at this point not maintain my weight. So I may need to cut back on my portion sizes :/ I will have to work on that yet.

Amie Lynn,

Thanks. It has been a lot of work. I have cut out all refined and white carbs (a few slips here and there) and start all my meals with protein first, then veggies. No liquids 30 minutes before or after eating. The basic rules I was given as a post op.

The longer I abstain from the foods that are triggers, the easier it is getting but still some days I would kill for pretzels or crackers.

Dusted off my pedometer and trying to get 10000 steps a day, started off at around 4000. Most days now, I am around 6-7000. My work days are over 10,000.

The hardest part now is the emotional part and the negative self talk. Just feel like I failed again, but know as long as I don't quit, I can't fail.

I didn't realize how difficult maintenance would be after the 2 year honey moon I had.

Okay, so my oldest daughter is home from San Diego (I live in Indiana). We are having a big BBQ cookout with all the fixings tomorrow. My game plan is to use a small plate and choose my favorite dishes in small quantity and talk a lot. I just lost two pounds this week and would really be depressed if I gained weight next week.

What do you guys do on special occasions?

Hey Brandi,

I'm a housewife and found myself continually grazing all day. It has really decreased since I've been tracking everything I eat no exception. Monday I was eating 1500 calories (yikes) by Friday I was down to 1000 calories and very satisfied. I tell myself to drink two glasses of water before eating anything. By the time you wait the half hour, usually the temptation has gone away or its time to get busy on the house again. I also got a before picture out of me at my highest weight, put it where only I will look. That helps too. Sometimes you just got to give in and eat what your craving. I believe if you eat a small portion the craving will go away. Remember we are not on a diet we are living a healthy lifestyle. So I think if we are eating healthy 90% of the time we are doing great.

Topic: Weekends or days off

Wondering if others find weekends or your days off work more difficult? I find keeping busy outside of my home (away from the kitchen) easier to control my snacking. On my days off when I am cleaning around the home or watching tv I get more tempted to snack and over eat! I use to look forward to my days off work so I could relax and have some 'me' time, but now I kind of worry about not being able to stay on track. I know this is something I have to work on because being able to stay strong with temptations is a part of life.
