Congratulations on your progress.
I am finally 223 lbs. again. I think 7 weeks ago I was 230 so I am losing 1 lb. a week. It is going to be a slow journey to onederland. I do feel better though. I like the simplicity of dotting. I think some of my serving sizes are a little bigger than they should be. Casseroles are hard to measure. Persistence and patience is difficult. Hopefully, it won't take 10 days to lose another pound. I really feel that I can get under 200 lbs. and maintain that forever...of even keep losing! That would be great! Tri
I lost another pound this week (224 lbs.). I knew this was going to be a marathon. On the other hand I haven't seen 223 lbs. in years! Dotting my food servings is easy. Tri
I am starting my 4th week bot. I have been filling in dots on my dot diet sheet for a little over a week. I have to standardize the serving size of each food group so that I don't eat too many calories. I am finding a starch serving is 80 to 100 calories, fruit 60 to 80, dairy 60 to 80, fat 50 and protein 150. So this morning my breakfast sandwich was 100 for a whole wheat muffin, 110 for cheese and 90 for turkey sausage ...300 calories. I counted it as 1 starch, 1 protein and 1 fat or 300 calories (100+150+50)
Sometimes I want to combine 2 dots for a snack such as fruit and dairy. Then I eat a snack at the half hour between the hour. So I eat my 10 am fruit and 11 am dairy at 10:30.
All in all I like the flexibility of the dot diet to keep me eating all food groups for nutrition and not eating too much at one time. I like the easy tracking.
I will be back next Sunday to give you an update. Hopefully, I will lose a pound or 2 by next week Tri
I am finishing 3 weeks bot today. I am down 5 lbs. I decided to follow the dot diet (3 servings of protein, dairy, starch, fruit, veggies and fat). I decided to eat every hour or 2 (at the rate of 1 dot per hour) after I read of a woman ate all day and lost 137 lbs. I added 6 exercise dots (10 minutes of exercise for each dot). I wonder if I can get under 200 lbs. which is my 1st goal. So far so good. Tri
I am adding 5 exercise dots to the dot diet plan so that I get a 1 hour workout spread though out the day. If it is good enough for the Mayo clinic I have to make it official for me. I am once again 225 lbs. That is 5 lbs. in the past few weeks. I am finding it easier to eat every hour or 2 than to go 3 or 4 hours. I am not sure why. If it works I will do it. Tri
I am stalling. Is it the dot diet? Is it a stall? Am I not moving enough? Am I eating too many calories? Today I thought I'd track my actual food calories, also fill in my dot diet sheet and track my exercise. Hopefully this is just a stall after losing a few pounds and I will lose more next week. Tri
The plan:
7&8: whole wheat English muffin, 2 oz. deli ham and Swiss cheese 225
9: peach 75
10: yogurt 100
11: side salad and ff dressing 100
12&1: whole wheat hamburger bun, 2 oz. beef and Swiss cheese 225
2: strawberries 50
3: sf pudding cup and 1T dry roasted peanuts 100
4: my veggie soup 50
5&6 brown rice pasta and cheese with ground turkey and broccoli 550
7: frozen grapes 100
1575 calories
Exercise: Are you all or nothing?
Don't have time for a full 60-minute workout? Don't sweat it. Divide and conquer. Shorter spurts of exercise, such as 10 minutes of walking spaced throughout the day, offer benefits, too. The key is to get moving. Take the stairs, walk during your lunch break, and do household chores at a pace fast enough to get your heart pumping. It all adds up.
I have been cleaning and gardening the house 10 minutes two times each hour to get moving again since my foot surgery. This actually has worked for me.
Botting and dotting is sort of the same idea. At the end of the day my disorganized eating fills my daily nutrition needs one or two food servings at a time. Tri
I have been dotting for almost a week. I really like eating all day. It would not be for most rny's but for me it works. I got my flu shot today. I am really tired this afternoon, but I had the flu a couple of years ago and I will never miss my flu shot again. I may not fill in all my dots today. Hopefully, I will lose another pound tomorrow or Saturday. I also started drinking more water today.
It is 9:30 am and I am due for a serving of food. I feel nothing in my gut, but I am not starving either...just comfortable. I have had 3 dots so far today: protein, starch and fruit. I like the flexibility of choosing a food group each hour rather than following a strict plan. I talked to a dietitian last time I was hospitalized and I asked her if I ate 3 servings of each food group would that be ok? She thought about it and said sure. After all these years I know my groups and serving sizes...it's just eating them and nothing else. My house is free of trigger foods. My husband buys ice cream in an individual size container and eats it that same day. We have Viactiv and protein bars in the pantry instead of candy. For years, I seriously eat 600 calories a day too much healthy food and so instead of weighing 165 lbs. I weigh 225 lbs. I am accepting that I will never feel like I swallowed food...so be it!!!
I never in a million years would have expected this after a RNY, but crap happens. I give up thinking that some surgeon will put "Humpty Dumpty" back together again. After my RNY I don't trust surgeons anymore. He hurt me. I need to depend on myself and do whatever I can do to make myself as healthy as possible for a few more years. I have been reading the "Failed weight loss surgery" forum and there are a lot of people not happy with the surgeries their insurance companies paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for!!!! Patients blame themselves because we respect our doctors and we don't respect ourselves in the first place because we are fat, so it is our fault. I think bariatric surgeons should be required to have some sort of extra certification to do bariatric surgery. At my first support group meeting, I asked the patients what kind of training he had. One of his failing patients that worked in his hospital said that he learned on us. Later he fixed her and she did well after that. Others of us struggle. I was one of his first RNYs.
It is 8:30 pm and I made it through the day following my dot diet for the last 5 days. Even if I only lose 1 pound a week it is progress for me. I might just do this forever if it works. Tri
