Back On Track Together
Sept. 8
As I mentioned before, we had bed bugs. Well, I've spent the last week or two dealing with those and NOT taking care of myself. Lots of comfort eating, drinking, convenience foods . . . and I've gained back the 4 pound I lost last month, plus 3 more! I'm feeling ugly, 'ughly', blah. The thing that gets me is that I'm never really hungry, but always craving. I know it's the excess sugar and carbs, not to mention not having a steady schedule that is doing it. It's stress of having to move half the things out of the house so that we can treat the house, dealing with other people's emotions about it, not having a steady schedule and frankly, when the going gets tough, I tend to say "forget it" to any food plan!
I really want to beat up on myself for that, but I realize that that isn't going to work. Instead, I'm going to take a deep breath and concentrate on feeding my body, moving my body. One day at a time, one breath at a time.
So, here is my food plan for the day
B-fast: 2 sausage patties, coffee (no cream or sweetner) - what is that about anyway? I can't have it with cream without wanting a sweetner and vice-versa, but I'm perfectly fine drinking it black!!!
snack (if needed): 1 12 oz can V8
Lunch: spinach salad with egg, veggies, cheese, chicken, oil & vinegar
snack : questbar (my bariatric support group turned me on to these 18 grams fiber!)
dinner: lean (88/12) grilled hamburger patty, swiss cheese, green beans
I hate to be a downer - but I gained weight eating quest bars... I also thought these are great - but after number of RH- sugar crashes I pulled my bS meter and realized that these bars made my BS spiked really high... and i needed more carbs to bring it back up.
I blamed everything on my RH... so make sure you check your BS after eating one of those...

I've been thinking I should be using whey isolate drinks in my plan. This FB Bariatric group I belong to really uses them a lot (the group founder sells them) but I find I can't afford them. I like that you call whey isolate a processed food, I never thought of it that way, I can do this without the PROCESSED bars and shakes. 🐼
Thanks
Edie
doing too many whey isolate shakes I believed I developed allergies to whey and casein.. dairy proteins..
So now no cheese or yogurt for me.
There is study that show a rapid insulin release after consumption of whey proteins. The more processed the whey was - the higher insulin spike they saw..
Now I still use some protein powder - but in a very small qty to add to my baked goods (I use coconut and almond flour instead of normal flour)
I make waffles, and cookies and muffins..
i often make my own coconut flour, using organic minimally processed coconut flakes.. (I make my coconut milk - and the put - once dried again and roasted - is great as substitution for any flour..)
Since I stopped using whey proteins my blood work has been great - really high protein levels.. Een my doc was surprised

Hi Hala
Your rh is really a problem for you...isn't it? Have you worn a bs monitor? Have you seen an endocrinologist? I can't tolerate sugar or alcohol. The bs goes up quickly and then falls. I don't have lactose problems so milk brings it back up and the protein stabilizes it. I am ok with carbs in fruit and veggies. I also have to eat more frequently. RH is very frustrating. You have done amazing with maintaining weight loss. I wish you well my friend. Tri
Yes to all your questions.
I have to be very careful with all foods, including fruits. When my BS drops - I need carbs to bring it back, and that is causing weight gain. So I walk a very fine line. Enough food to maintain good blood sugar, but not too much to cause blood sugar fluctuation.
I have insulin resistance, so in response to carbs or sugars or even highly proceed foods my body dumps a lot of insulin into my system. Too much insulin = weight gain, or prevents weight loss.
On top of all of that I have adrenal insufficiency, so I need to take steroids... Too much steroids cause even more insulin resistance... But if I don't take them - I can't function and steroids abilizlize - my hypoglycemia (fasting low blood sugars).
I learn to test my blood sugar wen I introduce new foods, New products or new combination.
Some days I would test my BS every 10 - 15 min...and by the end of the day my fingertips are all bloody and swolen. But at the end I know what works...and how much I can push my body...

I have 2 friends that went through bed bug exterminating. It was difficult. I think you are doing great with the situation. Getting bot after only a couple days of stress eating is great. Those pounds you regained will come off as fast as they came on. I looked up quest bars and the one I looked at (smores) had 22g of carb and 13 g of fiber. That is only 9g of net carb. That is less net carb than a slice of whole wheat bread. I have never had a Quest bar, but a girl that lost a lot of weight using bot (I can't remember her name) ate them every day. I am glad you are back and at it again. take care, Tri
B: protein coffee and 1/2 nsa muffin
S: veggies, rf cheese, nsa apple sauce
L: ff tuna salad on whole wheat bun
S: ff and nsa ricotta, pumpkin, pineapple, crustless pie
D: pork and steak, whipped sweet potato, white potato and carrots
S: ???
I am still eating out the freezer and pantry so the menu is strange. Probably one more week of crazy food. After that I may go on frozen meals for the portion control. take care, Tri
