Back On Track Together

Well, the weekend is over - thank god!  I have to admit that I'm really starting to see where and when I struggle - and why.  It's when I'm at home trying to do 15 things at once that I go off my plan - I forget to eat and then I eat the wrong things. Especially when I'm out and about doing errands. I'm thinking that I need to eat by the clock. If it's lunch time and I'm like "I'm not hungry" and go about doing my errands, around 2 or 3 I'm ravenous and in a position where I do not have healthy alternatives. I fall back on junk food. Why is it so easy to eat 4 servings of chips and never feel full, but to eat 3 or 4 oz of meat (1 serving) and I can't eat another bite without getting sick. :-/

So my food plan for today is

B: Protein shake on the way to work, Greek 100 yogurt 1/3 cup flax/pumpkin seed granola

L: carb-smart tortilla, 2 oz grilled chicken, grilled peppers and onions, salsa

s: babybell cheese, banana

D: 3 oz burger patty, 1 slice American cheese, 2-3 stalks gilled asparagus

That's why I always carry "food" in my purse - at least 2 servings.. plus extra in the car. Something that can be there for a weeks without going bad.

It is habit that I developed long time ago... It helped me in so many situations...

What kind do you carry? I had gotten some individual servings of jerky, but my son scarfed them down . . .

I carry protein bars - that are good for me - but don't taste that great (so I would only eat that when needed) - for me - that are

  • "Epic Bars " (I am allergic to whey and soy)
  • Individual portioned nuts (almonds,)
  • Individually packed nut butter : justin's' almond
  • if I want to be decadent I get the Creamy Coconut & Peanut Spread Squeeze Pack by Earth balance.
  • Pork rinds. - they do have more proteins than fat and no carbs. And even if I want to I can't eat more than 1/2
  • small OSTRIM meat sticks.. ( I really don't like them that much - so they are perfect...)
  • Bacon jerky...
  • .  justins classic almond butter squeeze packsr1-EARTH-053-smpkgcoconutPB

These are small packs. and are 200 cal each. They have fat - and once I eat one - I really can wait 2 hrs before I eat.

I also make my own protein snacks.  I use almond butter, eggs,. and shredded coconut.. make "cookies (5-6 dozen at one time) and dry them. They get really nice and crispy and last dry for weeks without refrigeration. (in my car, purse) .

Problem would be if kids like it -they would scarf them down..

My BF does not like that - but even if he did - knowing this is my emergency stash - he would never eat that

I think the challenge is to find something good enough for you to eat - but only semi tasty-  so you or your kids will not touch that unless really have to.

i.e. they have almonds covered in SF chocolate coating - and they make a small 100cal packs... well.. I will eat them ... just because they are yummy... too yummy...

I also learned to be selfish... and say "no, this is mine, I don't share that" if someone ask for a taste or a bite... They can have anything - I am very limited what I can have...

When I used drink protein shakes - I would have a individually packed protein powder with me - and I knew I can ge****er and mix that, and drink anytime.  RTD at home - so when I got really busy - just mixing that with ice (in summer - hot days) or with coffee (winter) gave me a quick fix to "food" like...

Great ideas!  One of the problems I have is that I live in Houston, TX.  Hot, hot, hot! And so things that may melt or go bad is a no-go.  Nuts I tend to go 'nuts' over. :-)

I like the pork rind idea. :-)

I live in SC... hot hot hot..  not as hot as Texas- but hot enough...Nut butter, my cookies - I keep in the. Pork rinds - most stores have that, as well as nuts.. (gas station on every corner)... The epic protein bars and nut butter - - my purse... (that I never leave in a car) That's why i use the individually packed nut butter. no oxygen - no spoilage.  The nut butter never last more that 1-2 months in my car- I eat it - since more than no I am running here and there.. That is very useful to eat as I am getting into a store to get groceries..
