Anita Jo,

Congrats on the baby! How wonderful!!

Sounds like you are on the right path. Can you part with the cookies?

All I have to say from my experience, that the regain is coming off, but at a much slower rate now.

Not sure if I can give you good diet advice, but now I try to eat protein first and non starchy veggies. I do have a protein coffee every morning because I have never been one to eat breakfast. Will have a late breakfast or early lunch on my days off.

I would say get back to the basics then take it from there. Be reasonable and take care of your self. I know you are busy being a Mom!

What a good boyfriend!

Congrats again on motherhood!

Winter squash is a starchy vegetable, like potatoes corn peas and beans, but its lower on the glycemic index. I will have squash and pumpkin, love some variety.

I have been off track for longer than I want to admit.  RNY in June, 2002.  Then thyroid cancer in 2005, full thyroid removal, radioactive iodine, and on synthetic levothyroxine.  I think I just gave up.  I'm almost 65 years old.  But I have decided enough of this!  I'm going to try to get back on track and take off some of this weight that I have put back on.  I have gotten lazy on the program, addicted to carbs (yes, I admit it), and never drink the amount of water I am supposed to..   Nothing makes me dump anymore so it's more self control than anything.

I am upping my protein, adding protein shakes, and I have discovered my new favorite vegetable!  I love spaghetti and pizza.  I found recipes for zucchini spaghetti (using a spirilizer) and even zucchini pizza crust.  I can't believe it!  I can have pizza again and spaghetti!  Heaven!  I have done the zucchini spaghetti and it's absolutely delicious!  It will be on my grocery list every week now.  Also, I have recently discovered Kale and love it too.

Has anyone tried the 5 day pouch test and does it really work?  I think it would be hard to be on only liquids (even soup) for several days.  I remember YEARS ago, I reached a plateau in my losing, and went on a 3 day protein shake "fast".  I thought I was going to die with nothing to chew.

Thanks for any ideas,

Sharon

Congrats on the new baby!! For me, I can not let things like cookies be in my house. If they are there, then I know I will have times when I am too weak and will give in to eating them. I do not use protein shakes and have not since the first year after my surgery. I enjoy food and can get plenty of protein from actual food so why deny myself food and drink a shake? It sounds like you are doing everything right and the weight will come off. It is just at a much slower speed than it did after our surgery. Hang in there and post often for support. Best of luck to you.

Congratulations on the baby Anita Jo.    Talk about big changes!!  I'm sure things were hectic, but sounds like you are pulling things together again (as soon  as those GS cookies are gone!)

I have to think again about protein shakes -- I was planning on having one a day, but from what I've read, it's better to "eat" the protein rather than drinking it.  I have always been a late-night eater - dinner is usually around 9:00 and I have a snack afterwards, and always lost weight.  But, I usually don't eat anything for at least one hour before going to bed.

I love this board -- so much good info.

I agree with the above posters. No need for you to drink protein shakes unless you like them. I am transitioning my iced latte to a coffee protein drink. I'm still tweaking the recipe but I've already decreased the carbs and upped the protein.

Everyone eats girl scout cookies. They are cookie crack.

Congratulations on your new baby. That really takes a while to recover your body after pregnancy and for most of my mom friends and my own experience is that there are some changes that are permanent. Small things but kinda come with the baby. A non weight thing after you have a child is that your brain is hard wired to not go so deeply to sleep so you can hear the baby. Evidently that never goes away. DARN!! I'm still a much lighter sleeper and my son is 13.

Keep posting and run away from those cute little scouts.
