So I had gotten back on track after 5 years and was finally losing weight after going on a high protein low carb diet! I had lost 6 pounds then hit a major road block.... constipation. I was in severe pain and when I though I had finally gotten through it , it would come right back. I added more fruit and added a salad with my dinner, started adding Benifiber to my water and coffee 3 times a day, but it didn't really help. To get things "corrected" I  did something I didn't want to do, but knew it would help..... I went out and ate a greasy cheeseburger and fries. I felt horrible after I ate them and wanted to throw up, but I knew it would get things moving again. I haven't went totally back to my plan cause I don't ever want to be in that much pain again. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help keep me regular while I'm eating a higher protein diet?  I love my protein drinks throughout the day but am so scared to drink them like I was.

I have suffered severe bouts of constipation since my WLS.  The only thing that has helped, and it's been almost miraculous, is taking a probiotic.  I take Align every day.  It works great for me.  I also add a pre-biotic (indigestible fiber) supplement to my morning coffee.  The one I use is inulin.  It dissolves completely and is tasteless.  The only time I've been constipated since starting this regimen is when I had to up my dose of Vitamin D.  I had stopped taking vitamins and developed a severe vitamin D deficiency, so started megadosing 8000-10000 iuis a day.  Apparently, constipation is a terrible side effect from vitamin D (something to consider if you are taking supplements).  Once i dialed my dose back to 2000 iui's a day, the probiotic started doing its job again.

I will try that. I did just change my multi vitamin and wondered if that might have something to do with it too.

One other thing to try is avoiding gluten.  I saw some relief from my IBS-C when I quit gluten 18 months ago.  But it improved even more with the probiotic/prebiotic therapy.
