Regain
Just wondering if anyone who has had a regain would share how they lost the weight. I have gone back to basics and my calories are usually between 800-900 a day. I am keeping my carbs at 20 or a bit below. I drink my water all day and my protien is usually as high as 100 grams a day. I have been posting my food and if anyone notices anything they think is off I would appreciate being told. I will not take offesnse or feel judged. So how did you lose your regain and how long did it take? My regain was about 15 pounds and I have lost 5.
What surgery did you have? When? What was your lowest weight, and bmi, how about body fat %? What is it now? Your age?...what current clothes size?
Sometimes our body decides to hold on minimum body fat and anything below that is very difficult to lose our even maintain.
I.e. i am over 50, and set one time i went down to 142 lbs. I am a large frame, and at that weight, i was wearing size 4 (lose) and that did not look good on me. My body fat% was at our below 18%.. Cool for a young person, maybe, but not on 50+ year young more.
I gained some weight and size 6 looked and felt right...
I gained some more..and i was not happy with myself... Since then i lost most of the unwanted regain, and i still would like to lose 5-6 lbs, but i am ok where i am. Most my 6s fit more nicely, my belly is flat again (no mufiin top), my bra fit me with not over-spillage.
My body fat% it's app 24-26...and that is perfect for me and easy to maintain.
Going to get below 150 would be really crazy for me.
My ideal goal (due to my frame, and my muscles) should be 153-158...with body fat% of 22-24...

Thanks for responding. I had VSG and am 33 months post op. I am 59. My lowest weight was 129, and I have a medium frame. At that weight I was bones and hanging skin. I was comfortable at 132-135. My BMI was 23. In November at a wellness screening for work I was 132 and comfortable. I gained 3 pounds and my doctor was not happy with me. I cut back and lost and then started the process of bouncing up and down. I then caved into carbs and am now 142. I think I have lost about 5 pounds as I was too afraid to weigh myself. My clothes got really tight. They are fitting better, but still not comfortable. I wear a 4 or 6 and s or m tops. I do have extra skin as I had a high weight of 310. Not sure what my body fat is now. So how did you lose the weight? Did it take a long time? Maybe I am just being inpatient. As mentioned in my OP I have cut out all carbs but green veggies and am doing 20 carbs or below. I cut out nuts for not. I have been doing more shakes which is okay for now, but I prefer to get my protein from food. At this point since I am not eating that much, I am doing shakes for the extra protein. TIA for any suggestions.
I Do low carb, moderate proteins and the rest fat.
When to many proteins are consumed the body can convert them into sugars. Also -proteins stimulate insulin response, and that may prevent fat losses. Check - google food insulin index.
You are vsg - so you most likely don't need as many proteins. I had RNY and i know that i do much better (hunger wise and with loss) when i eat only as many proteins as i need and use fat...
I.e. i would get 50-60 gr proteins , 20-30 gr carbs, then rest calories from fat.
I use natural fats: coconut oil, eggs, bacon, bacon fat meats, etc. That way i am not hungry, and i can lose weight. I use nuts, but mostly hight fat nuts: macadamia, brazil, pecans. And not that many while trying to lose.
My typical losing weight is 70 gr proteins (i still malabsorb), 20-30 gr carbs (total, not net) and only from non starchy Veggies, nuts..rest of the 1000 call from fats. App 600cal - or 70 gr of fat per day.
I try to make sure than most of my snacks - meals were balanced - with app same amount of fat Asia proteins, and no more than 5-6 gr of carbs...
I may have some fruits once a week our so...But only berries..and not so much of that.
Eating like that, with mild exercises i was able to lose 15 lbs in 3 months..
Plus - that type of eating - i can easily maintain, even when i am in a road. I just got back from a week long trip. I ate like that, was not hungry, and...i drank too much wine. (Extra calories -but i choose dry wine). I did not lose, but i also did not gain any...

Thanks for your response. Just did some reading about food insulin index. Some articles contradicted the others. I guess as so many theories do. I do feel at this point I am eating to much protein. Before I cut back on the carbs I was getting about 60-70 grams. Maybe I don't need the scoop of protein powder. I have never really counted my fats and I use healthy oils with my foods. One article said fish and chicken can trigger high insulin response. These are staples in my food plan. I eat fish at least 5 times a week. I also do total carbs and not net carbs. What are fat Asia proteins? I would love to lose 15 in 3 months. I will think about some adjustments to make this week and see if I get any results. Thanks again for sharing your success and what works for you
"Fat asia proteins" Is typo (stupid tablet). It suppose to read "same amount of fat as proteins".
I try to balance my proteins with fat. So if my meal is rather lean - i would eat 1/2 avocado, or a few macadamia nuts as dessert...(macadamia nuts are high in fat).
I also make my own fat bombs ~ and may have 1-2 as a dessert...snack. But my calories requirements are bit higher that yours, plus with my RNY - it feels like i still don't absort all my fats.
In addition - due to my IBS and gut isuues - i also follow IF -intermittent fasting...i try not to eat during 12-14 hrs in every 24 hr period, but to drink no calorie drinks during that time to flush my intestines..(my gut does not work that well - i have low motility).
Google " IF " - some people really swear by that.
As a woman - i don't fast more than 14 hrs....there are studies that show that we should not do that - fasting more than 14 hrs on regular bases)
