Good Morning BOTTS!

So this morning I called my doctor's office to make an appt to go and have my monthly B12 shot about a hour ago.

The new doctor that took over my previous doctor called me about 20 minutes later and went over the lab work. Meaning that he is seening that I don't need the B12 shot. My levels are fine.

He asked me how I felt. I told him that I was feeling tired and very dizzy. He then told me that it was because I have low levels of Hemoglobin. He will see me today at 2pm for blood work.

He asked when was the last time I went in for iron transfusions and it was about this time last year. So he is sending me there and for blood transfusion.

Im sooooo nervous! All along I thought my Iron levels were good, Not bad but GOOD.

Has anyone been through this?
Advise please welcome.

I had WLS in 2001 and everything was fine until the past two years.  I've had big problems with very low levels of iron from my labs.

I tried different supplements and tried Vitronc before my doctor told me I'd have to do iv iron.  When my labs were done before my knee surgery, my iron was in the normal range.  I'm going to have them done again in a few months.  I don't feel as tired and run down as I was before.  I can't say the Vitronc is the reason until I have them re-done.

Please let us know how it goes.  I'll be thinking of you!

Thanks Cathy!
It doesn't hurt to give it a shot.
I'm in a serious stage right now that I'm willing to take anything that will help me recover.

I have always been anemic but gosh, I've been feeling so dizzy that it's scary.

Thanks for your feedback.

hugs..

that's why it is so critical to test ferritin. (iron storage).

Also - a lot of times iron levels can be great, hemoglobin good but the ferritin tanking really low..

Once they get depleted - it is a step to severe anemia...

In the future - insist that the doc runs not only iron - but also ferritin and once that number starts dropping - you may need iron infusions before your hemoglobin and RBC drop..

I go to my hemo doc to get infused when I see my ferritin drop below 30... Even though normal on my labs show as 10-200... we  know that once my ferritin drops below 30 I get tired, depressed and overall really weak...

Thanks for the details of what your experience and tests for iron and ferritin.  I'm keeping for my next appointment.

Hi everyone!
Just a quick update.

Well, I am going this week to see my Hemo doctor this week because I will be receiving Iron infusions.

Kathy thanks for the advice on taking the Vitron C vitamins. I started taking them on Wednesday night. I FEEL a LITTLE BETTER.
I read the reviews on these vitamins and they are AWESOME.

Thanks everyone.
