Back On Track Together
i am just wondering...
Does anyone follow a low carb high fat diet ...i have been trying to loose on this and am not successful... i am so frustrated cause i am watching my son do this and loose ...and loose ! i fix our meals ( he has not had any surgery) yes i am older (42) he is 14...i do put carbs in the way of veggies in his meals and occasionally he does get bread ...i don't want to totally take away all his carbs.
I dont know what to do anymore... i like the fact that i was never hungry with this but it's not working...:(
I do low carb, but not high fat. I don't do low fat either though. After all low carb, low fat and low sodium I would be in cranky all the time. I use healthy fats such as olive and coconut all. I also love salmon and get healthy fats from that. I don't do butter, mayo beef or cheese. I have borderline high cholesterol. It kind of sounds like you are doing what was the old Atkins. I did that many times before surgery. If it is not working, I can only suggest you try something else. Maybe lower the fat, lean protein and carbs from green veggies. It might help to post your food and asks for feedback.
this morning (5am) i had coffee about 3c with 1 tbs heavy whipping cream and liquid splenda
8am cream cheese pan cakes with 2 breakfast sausages
lunch - baked chicken breast ( its boneless and skinless) maybe sauteed spinach in butter and garlic ( going to cook at work) went groc shopping this morning before work and brought it here cause i did not have time to save at home..
s- cheese 1 oz
dinner - "pepper soup" ( this will be my first time making it... poblano peppers, bell pepper, ground beef, onion , garlic, tomato sauce , seasonings, maybe some "cauli rice" not sure about amounts ...i usually don't measure until serving myself...
Drea i am or was...doing old Atkins...which keeps me full...just not loosing..I prob feel best with eating the way you do.. i like coconut oil...and the good things it can do for us... there is just so much information out there and I prob read so much that it is jumbled up for me ...eat this ..not dont eat that...lol IDK
I did the atkins before surgery too and lost 86lbs but dont remember how long that took... i think my mind feels most comfortable at computing the process of lower fat meats , veggies and no starchy foods...that could be what i did while loosing..i just remember being full on 1/2 c cottage cheese and strawberries and maybe a boiled egg...that wont cut it now...unless i make my self eat that way and just be hungry if that happens... carbs of any kind make me hungry faster.......
still lost
lol
I do LCHF , but I also count calories. and make sure I don't eat too many proteins - proteins with not fat- may cause insulin release.. so I always add fat to my proteins and try to divide them between meals.
And i avoid processed food - so I don't eat protein bars.
I lose or maintain my weight..with no problem. I do minimal exercise...(not a lot - and mostly yoga, or walking)
i.e.
calories for me to lose: 1000- 1200 per day
proteins : 70 gr =280 cal
carbs : 30 max = 120 cal
fat= 1000-280-120= 600 cal = app 70 gr of fat..
carbs: 20-40 per day (total, not net, 20-30 net) - only from non starchy veggies and nuts. ( I don't eat dairy)\
my meals : 4-5 ; 250 cal each; I opt for fat gr =prot gr; and little bit carbs... (no more than 1/2 of proteins.
if i get hungry - I eat more fat.. (nuts, or avocado)
I may eat fat with no carbs or proteins, but never eat just carbs or just proteins. (like in protein shake - I add fat to my shakes - from coconut or almond milk)

If i eat carbs - I can eat and eat and eat,,, then I can eat some more.
But with dense proteins and fat, with little bit veggies - my pouch dictates how much I can eat (not that much).
How much I can eat depends on what I eat..

I don;t kn\ow., Depends how you define net carbs,
I have to count some fiber and some SA... I get reaction to that.
the only carbs I don;t count are in real green foods, - l]ike unprocessed ve[ggies fiber, real unprocessed nut fiber
But processed food like protein bars - i.e quest - my body see the "so called fiber" as pure simple sugar" so I can't deduct that.
when I go on a "clean low carb diet" = first week I don't count calories... I just make sure every meal have at least same fat as carbs (more fat is OK) and no more than 50 %of carbs as proteins... (less is OK... )
i.e.
meal : 15gr proteins +15 gr fat and no more than 5-7 (total) carbs.
first week or 2 - changing what I eat - matters.
then after that...once my body is used to my food - I start lowering calories (if needed) to 1000-1400 per day for losing,, no more than 20-30 net carbs from REAL foods.
I have adrenal issues - so once a week I may eat more carbs - but only maybe double - like 40-or 50 net carbs ....I would eat more - juts the same type foods, the same ration..(i.e.more nuts, nut butter, etc)

I eat low carb but not high fat. The carbs that I do eat are from complex carbs - no simple carbs.
I wouldn't compare you and your son as far as what you're both eating. His metabolism at 14 is way different than yours.
Go back to the basics that you did when you were losing weight. Don't eat high fat and make the fats that you do eat come from healthy fat foods.
You did it before and you can do it again!
