Entertainment Tonight, Dr. H and The Biggest Loser

I posted a shorter version of this post on the Main Board.

Last night on Entertainment Tonight they interviewed a contestant from Season 2 that talked about a number of less than transparent things they do.  Their "weeks" can be up to 20 days is one thing.  I've watched the show periodically but last night will be my last.

TBL's doctor, "Dr. H" (Dr. Huizenga) stated to one of the finalists (Rob) "You didn't choose that distasteful weight loss surgery everyone wants to have."  Distasteful?  He's an authority to be able to make that biased judgement how???

I am just so pissed about his comment and the impact it could have on someone considering WLS to save their life.  It is a very popular show so lots of MO people are among their audience.  I'm so pissed about it that I sent them a message, gave them OH's URL.  I told them to check out how many people have had WLS that helped them to become healthy and save their lives.

It is one thing not to like WLS but make such a judgmental statement to call it "distasteful" is ignorant on his part.

Consider me disgusted about his distasteful comment.

Ive never watched the show, but i never really had much faith in it. They do extreme dieting and a butt load of exercising that is in my opinion unrealistic once they are back home and on their own. If i had a trainer and a chef 24 hours a day id be super fit and thin!

Really? How about very rich woman who can afford that and still are not? Rosie just had VSG, what about Oprah? She had all the money and support? More that any of us can imagine.. She is still fat...

Agreed, H.a.l.a.  The downside of having that much money is that it also gives you greater ACCESS to EXCESS!

I half watched a portion of the finale, but I didn't hear that comment. It's just completely ignorant. I saw one of the trainers, Bob, on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live a few weeks back. Someone called in and asked him what past contestant had disappointed him the most by regaining all of his/her weight. Bob's response was, "We have so many of those that I can't even begin to name just one." I thought that really spoke volumes about how successful their tactics are longterm.
