Weekend land mines!

I am sure I am not alone, but the weekends can be challenging.  I try to know ahead of time what I am going to do, where I am going to go and what challenges I may face.  With this knowledge I am prepared with my water and food plans.  It's the last minute challenges.  I am further out so my restrictions are not as black and white as someone in their first year.

What do you do to stay on track and avoid the weekend land mines?

Weekends have always been easier for me.  The stress at work during the week creates so much anxiety that I feel like I am coming unglued.   Not unlike during the week I always have a plan of what I am going to eat.  If I am going out to visit family, I bring lunch and a snack.  If I am going out to dinner, I decide what I will eat before I get there and don't even look at a menu.  If something unexpected comes up I always have something on hand that I can take with me in a hurry.  I have a better chance of success with planning.  Winging it usually makes my life more challenging and I prefer the peace I get from routine.

I agree! When I first had surgery I purposely didn't put any land mines in my way until I felt strong enough to learn how to vault over them

As I stated in reply to Jen's post and as you stated here it really is all about preparation.  If I have my ducks in a row I am good to go.

Having food portioned out and ready to go makes my life easier.  I am a person that does not need daily variety in my food.  So I could cook a pot of veggies and eat on it until it is gone.  With that being said, if I have veggies cooked in the fridge and protein portioned in 4 oz packages I can cook a meal for my self using my George Foreman grill in 5 minutes or less.  If my salad veggies are cleaned and cut I can put together a small salad while the grill heats and grill the protein while I heat the veggies.  Simple, fast, and healthy.  If I have not made the time to plan and prep then it all falls apart.  I also keep ready to drink protein shakes and protein bars on head as well as fruit.  I can grab and go if something unexpected comes up and that will keep me going until I can cook at home.

It is just so easy to fall off the wagon so to speak.  I have to stay mindful and focused.

Hi Linda B,

You sound like me... one of my favorites is to stir fry mixed veggies with a little olive oil and seasonings and then eat them during the week. I go to Costco and get the individual chicken breast and salmon.  As you said Planning is everything

My weekends are usually pretty laid back, but it is a time that we eat out more. My husband is very consistent with his workouts so it is easy to go with him on the weekends. We did decide to go out to dinner tonight and I've already looked up the menu and decided on what I will order.

After dinner at this particular spot, we usually pop into a treat shop nearby and get something to share afterwards. However, I'm really focused on getting my weight down as much as possible before a warm weather trip coming up in about 5 weeks, so I think I will have the resolve to avoid this...plus my husband knows how hard I've been working on making better choices lately so hopefully he will be okay skipping this place today.
