Just curious, I'm 3 years out, but ppl that haven't had surgery and diet are always referring to eating enough to avoid starvation mode. How does that fit into wls when u can't eat that much?

Starvation mode may slows down metabolism - and too many of days like that may really mess that up for very long time - and for some people - forever.

I have been on so many diets - fasts, etc - that my metabolism was already low.  Thats why many of us both as big as we get - beside eating too much - our body was - and is - for many of us - not very good at burning, but very good for storing any extra calories.

That's why some suggest no less than 800 cal per day, with many - long term chose more realistic 1000-1200 a day to lose slower but more long term.

I guess you can google that and find more info.  It does not matter if you don't provide enough calories or if you malabsorb.  The theory says that if the body does not get enough (starvation mode) it may try to hold on any and slow down metabolism.
