Good Morning to All,  I hope you ladies don't mind that I jumped in and started this mornings blog!!!  Warm and cloudy is the forecast for today and I'm planning to spread my wings a little bit today and hit the road.  I'm still on the mend after my surgery, but feeling better each day.  While I was able to drop 8lbs. in the week that I was feeling terrible as H.a.l.a. had predicted my appetite has returned with a vengence and I seemed to want to eat more and more.

I am managing okay, but the real challenge will come when I return to work in the office on Monday. I've already put the ladies on notice, no welcome back party with donuts, bagels or candy scattered around.  Don't want to hurt your feelings,  but I don't want it!!!

Well I'm off to Walmart to endulge in some light shopping, but here is my meal plan for today!!!

 Happy Saturday!!!!!

EM - EAS Chocolate Protein Shake (done)

B -    3 slices of Turkey Bacon w/oatmeal (ICBINB & 3 Splenda) (done)

S -    ???

L -    New Salad from Wendy's???

S -   ???

You can and should start post if you see there is not one there. We all be greatful.

Raining and cool in SC . Unusual weather we are having here.  We take any cool and rainy day in summer in SC.

The kittenn I am "rescuing" is doing great. Eating and pooping and he even started playing and demanding attention. I got him as toy and I am teaching him how to play with it.  I still have him confined and we are not sure if what he has is nasty virus that can be transmitted to other cats.   I took him to the vet and there is possibility of their nasty virus. The cost oif thger tesdt was $200... And it will only tell us if he was exposed to it, but no it if the virus is still active. But...thast is better than nothing. I haste depending the money....but my cast and my BF's cats are too important to ignore that.  I will have to find ways to save that.  (Sell something...)

My eats today are OK

Coffee + Miralax, green tea

L: chicken curry, veggies, strawberries

Protein bread with avocado and tomato

Chocolates with nuts

D: spaghetti meat sauce on top of zucchini "noodles"

LNS: not sure..nuts?

Re appetite returning:  oatmeal is pure carbs - I could never eat that because that carbsd weoukd trigger my insulin and that would make me ravenously hungry for the whole day and beyond.  There is even studies that show that long term post op RNY people have up 20 x more insulin response to carbs- sugars as normal people.  That mean that for every 1 gr of carbs - my body makes 5-20 times as much insulin as is needed. High insulin will cause insulin's resistance - and may cause hunger, very drastic blood sugar fluctuation, (very low and high blood sugars).   Hi insulin also promotes fat storing (gaining weight) and high insulin's blocks converting body fat into energy (high insulin prevents weight loss)

If I limit carbs - not only I am not very hungry - but I also can lose weight.

My first meal is typically proteins and fat +  no more than 10-% cal from carbs, (if any).

Lean proteins - when too many eaten at once (very subjective - how masuch is too much)  may also trigger insulin response, and body can convert proteins into blood sugar.

My typical first meal : eggs scrabled on coconut oil or bacon fat, crispy bacon, some Lowe carbs veggies.  I use good natural fats: coconut oil, butter, bacon, avocado, nuts, etc.  My portions are small relatively -and I get full very fast.

If you ever consider doing that - to  increase fat in your diet - do it very slowly to see what type of fat and how many grams your body can tolerate at a meal  also the delivery method - I.e. I can tolerate a lot of nuts (some not all) , but greasy burger - not so much, same with type of fat and qty in solid dense foods vs liquid.

Thank you so much for the information which is really helpful no only to me, but to others who may be stalking the site. I will admit the oatmeal breakfast was a quickie breakfast, and while I didn't post the rest of my meals for the day, instead of the salad from Wendy's I ended up with a pozza from Papa Johns which was a small Spinach Alfredo with Chicken.  Two small slices totaled 380 calories, but the carbs nd sodium were off the chart.

Now I know to keep the hunger gremlin away to stick with the Protein & Veggies. Glad I didn't buy the wheat bread for my peanut butter & jelly sandwiches.  I've been post-op so long I've really forgot what I ate when I first had the surgery.

Better day tomorrow!!!

Thanks for the info.  I didn't know that about the "too much" protein.  I have bouts with R.H.  Often times it's obvious to me why it happened...,then there are times I expect it to (because of something I should not have eaten)and it doesn't , and then times that I have no idea why.   Seems like I'll go in bouts, like for a few days I'll have multiple issues/ low bs events and then go weeks with no problems.  I do notice that the more I exercise, the less frequent the bouts are. Go figure!

I deal weith severe RH four 4+ years now.  Finally in the last year I can finally control it.

I done some serious research and I casn understand more than ever before.   Still - I am not an expert - but I casn share with anyone whast I learned.  Please let me know if you masy need more info - research papers etc.

One point I learn the hard way - is to make sure to have fat in my diet.  It stabilizes the BS and does not convert to glucose. It is a process to train you body to use fat for energy - but the stability if that and well balanced sugar (no hi or lows - no sdlerping asftert a meal) is well worth it.) Just don't add fat tyo fries or pasta lol...that will not work...

Curios...when you DO have a low ( mine has been in 30's and 40's before) what do you grab to help bring it back up?
