Hello everyone...where to start...I have failed myself yet again.  I had the sleeve in 2009 and lost 100 lbs quickly over the next year...but old habits started up again and I was eating junk.  I have gained back at least 40 lbs of what I had lost, and dont know where to start.  I read somewhere about the pouch diet and wondering what this is cause I am so hoping that I did not stretch out my stomach.  I need support please...direction where do I start?  I want to just feel healthy and good about myself.

(((hugs))) I can't offer much advice about the sleeve but I do know that with every surgery the ones who successfully lose the regain are those who go back to basics. Get rid of the junk, up the water intake and get yourself moving.  You can do this.

Read what some of us are eating - doing. That may help.  Go back to old posts..

For me - I need to remove starches and sugars and a few days then I "sugar detox" can be really tough. Hunger, headaches.. cravings.. But drinking a lot of water - or coffee (black - I use stevia) or green tea - really helps.  When yo u drinking and running to the bathroom - it is hard to try to stop in the kitchen to grab food you trying to clean from.

If i stick to my plan (meat -fish eggs and non-starchy -green veggies + natural fats only) then after 4-5 days the hunger goes away and the cravings really lose their powder.

First 1-3 days I try not to limit the  proteins or green veggies... or avocado or oils, lemons...

Once the carbs are out - I can plan for meals that would limit both - calories and carbs..

A lot of time when we think we are hungry - we may be just thirsty.

Take a deep breath and start again

I have the sleeve too, it's so easy to let things slip back in.

Protein protein protein, that should be your first priority, throw out the junk you or your family don't need it.

here is the link to the 5 day pouch test http://www.5daypouchtest.com/

start reading success stories and focus on people who are driven, their journeys will encourage you when you're down.

get lots of water in and do some exercise.

I find what helps me is when I cut ALL gluten and processed sugar out of my diet, I feel much better and the weight seems to come off.. but that may not be for everyone.

Keep in touch!

Hi JENTLE01!
I totally understand what you are talking about.
I have RNY in 2008 and I felt comfortable letting some of the "other" food slip by.
I also regained about 40pounds. I am on a mission! There is no excuse for me (us) not to go back and be where we were at.
I caused me a lot of embarrassment thinking that friends and family were talking about me once I left the room.
Hey, BUT I had enough! We need to focus to eat the basics and we can!

Protein is the main key and some exercise!
Log your food and also check in here to read what works for others. YOU CAN DO IT! WE ALL CAN!

Hi Jentle:

To lose 40 lbs. you have to eat 400 calories less or move 400 calories more every day.  Or you can move 200 calories more and eat 200 calories less.  This sounds so easy and yet I have trouble doing it consistently.  I have tried the pouch test and can't do it, but many people can.  I also think not drinking with or after meals helps many people.  Eating protein, then veggies, then starches works for many people.  Cleaning the junk out of the house and drinking water is very helpful.  At least you have kept off 60 lbs. so congratulations on that.  Best to you, Tri

I'm so glad I visited this site this morning. I don't have the sleeve, but I'm also struggling; I had RNY in 2007. Thanks for sharing your suggestions ladies!!!

This site will help you greatly. Make sure you read the topics in blue at the top of the topics page. They go over how to eat, what to cut and such. I had RNY in 2005 and went from 270 to 130 at my lowest and settled in at 150 (which for me is a good weight). Then I started Nursing school and college for the first time in 2008 and started the regain. Got up to 205 two months ago. So far I have lost 13 pounds within about 2 months. I did this by going by to high protein eating (at least 80 grms./day.) and cutting carbs way back. Key for me is keeping an eating diary. I had no idea that most of what I was consuming was carbs! In fact most of my food was pure carbs-I love them, especially pretzels and Dr. Pepper. Carbohydrates seem to go right through us and we are able to eat and eat them. Plus once we eat them and they quickly go through, the insulin kicks in and then we get hungry for more carbs and thus a vicious cycle ensues. I still do get some carbs, but compared to the amount I was eating it is a big difference. The staples of my daily eatings are- meat, chicken, turkey, cheese, sometimes egg. Sometimes I will have a protein bar to make sure I am getting enough protein, but it is best to get it with other food products. I still have an occasional Dr. Pepper because eventually I will have to stop it completely, it is so difficult for me. The pretzels, I cannot even have near me because I simply cannot control myself with them. I can eat pretzels non-stop all day long and grazing all day will quickly add weight. It is very important that you make sure to read through those blue topics on the topic page by the two women that started this group, it will really go over what we must abide by to lose the regain successfully. Please don't get frustrated if you start to get back on track, and then lose your way and regain. I started back on track in October 2013, lost some weight and then regained after going back to carbs and just recently got back on track again. The people on this site are amazing people! They will cheer you on like they have me, when you feel it cannot be done. Keep track of all you eat on paper and also use the health tracker under the "MY OH" section. Good luck to you and sorry this is such a long post!
