Back On Track Together
LCHF diet question
I am a 54 year old woman who has a question about the low carb, high fat diet. Does anyone follow that? I was thinking of trying it, but wasn't sure those of us who've had rny surgery can have the fat. I think if I remember right, we are supposed to eat low fat. I was thinking of adding healthy fats like olive oil, canola oil, peanut butter and butter to each meal and cutting way back on breads, pasta, potatoes etc.
I go to see my surgeon next month and it's not good. At 5'3" I weigh about 265, The lowest I weighed was about 225 so I've
gained about 40. I was supposed to go back in January but put it off thinking I'd get my weight under control before I went to the
doctor. Now I think it's time to face the music and get back on
track.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi Edie,
I have a band, but it was emptied because I developed ulcers so bad that the irritation caused so much swelling nothing would pass through and they wanted to wait for it to heal and do a revision to RNY, I lost so much weight on my own I don't qualify for surgery anymore, Now I have to work hard so I don't go back up to 240, I'm only 4'8".
I just started LCHF about a week ago, lost 5.1 #, The only warning is the BPC, it was so good I had a second cup and it had a severe laxative effect for me late in the day. (That was a cup for breakfast and a cup for lunch) I'm staying away from bread and "white things" as much as I can, not going nuts about it tho, eating protein and vegs. Getting lots of ideas and recipes on the LC sites, using "My Fitness Pal" to keep track of my intake.
One day at a time :-)

Hi Edie, long time no see...
I try to follow that but I need tyo be careful since I don't have GB and I have pouch (RNY)
My configuration does not allow me to follow real LCHF diet.
And I hate to say it - but limiting the grains and starches on that diet masy not work. I had to eliminate grains, starches and evem fruits.
People on LCHF diet try to get no more than 20-30 gr of carbs as day.
Canola oil is a very highly processed, very unpheallty oil. IMO.
Full fast dairy, coconut oil, butter, bacon, etc are good choices. Avocado, nuts and but butters. There is as great FB site for LCHF group.

And I thought tropical oils like coconut were bad but now they
are good. I guess I will stick with my dairy, butter, peanut butter
and olive oil. And bacon of course.
Giving up fruit is not such a problem for me, it's the potatoes and
bread, but I can do this!
If you plan to do LCHF - coconut oil is soooooooo...oooooo... Good. Trust me.
Olives, avocado, are great. Cucumber - is kind of free food. I eat a lot of cucumbers NSA pickles.
I love to make avocado chocolate pudding: mix 1 ripe avocado + 1/2 cup of punsweet coconut milk + sweetener + 2-4 TBS of cocoa + pinch of salt. Mix all very well. Refrigerate. Eat. Sooo good,

Don't let it make you nuts, I tried the LC breads, english muffins, and bagels and they were all so disgusting I threw them away and went to lettuce wraps and after a month without bread I lost 15 #. This was a few months ago, when I was doing the pre-op prep when I thought I was going to have the RNY, for that it was a month of No more than 20 carbs a day. The Atkins site gives you all the info for induction, that's where it is suggested you do 20 carbs a day for 2 weeks and there is a list of what is "allowed".
I'm 67 and have many health issues, if I really want something I have it and tell myself, "tomorrow is another day" :-)
