Back On Track Together
Suggestions for questions to ask Dr
It's been awhile since I've posted anything on this site .. A short bit of my background and then I would like some suggestions about a Dr's appt I am having this week .. I had RNY in 2003 .. I was in the hospital for approx 6 weeks after surgery for complications that were not associated to the RNY surgery but I was very sick and returned the hospital for another stay and it still took me a few months to "get back to myself" so to speak .. and even then I had some issues .. I know before I had surgery I was told what to do and as far as what to eat and not and the rules and so on and so forth but due to the severity of my being ill I was not able to follow or even really recall what I was to do .. I was focused on my other health issues as was my Dr so I did lose most of my weight within a few months due to being ill .. Now fast forward to now .. I have regained and have tried to "go back to the basics" but not having done it to begin with has been hard to really know what to do .. Yes my Dr could have and would have told me but my "pride" got in the way (embarrassed that I allowed myself to regain weight) and I didn't continue going to annual appts .. Yes I know not good .. even though I have seen the Dr in the 10 years of having had the surgery .. just not on a regular basis .. And I am quite ashamed and embarrassed for the gain I have done so am not feeling good about my appt with my Dr this coming week .. I know I will have to have labs done and she will order those after I see her .. I know things have changed since I had my RNY but is there anything in particular that I should be asking her? I know I need to ask what to do to "get back on track" or whatever but again wasn't sure if there is something that I might not be aware of that I should be asking .. Please no negative comments as I feel bad enough but I'm going to get through this and get this behind me as well as get the weight dropping again .. I just need to start at the bottom and get my foundation strong again so to speak .. Thanks for any suggestions ..
Hey Rhonda:
No negative comments on this site. We have all been in your shoes or currently wearing them. Going to the doctor and getting a full lab panel done is a great first start. Once you get a great vitamin regiment to get back up on your numbers you will feel so much better. The basics are as follows: Get your calories back between 800-1000 a day with your proteins around 80-100 a day. Keep you net carbs at around 50 or below. Cut out all white products including sugar, flour, pasta, (sweets, breads, etc) starches. Don't drink with meals or 30 minutes afterwards. Journal your food daily, exercise/walk 30 minutes a day and take your vitamins regularly. You can lose your regain, not as fast as the first time, but your surgery will still work for you. I lost 70 lbs of regain in 8 months and have kept it off almost 2 years now. I will be 8 years out in March 2014. Good luck to you. We post our daily eats Monday - Friday and would love to see you post here are just come and lurk daily and see what others are eating to lose there regain.
Thanks Tess .. I appreciate your reply and suggestions .. That's what I as looking for as far as what the "basics" are .. Have read off and on some that give out what their Dr has said but still wanted to hear it for myself on my post .. I was afraid that it might have failed me .. or rather I failed my surgery .. I was at goal and then below but in the last year or so it's been creeping back and now I'm just upset of the gain and that I lost my perspective .. I need to get rid of at least 30-40 so to hear that you were able to lose yours and keep it off is encouraging to me .. Thank you for that .. I will also start journaling again as well .. I will look forward to the Monday-Friday posts of the daily eats as well .. Again thanks much for your reply and encouragement .. I feel a little better about my appt with my Dr this week :)
