Back On Track Together
Thursday, December 12th, Cardio & Cafe
Good afternoon BOTT friends,
Didn't get to read yesterday's C&****il today. Hope your daughter is getting better by the day, Gaby....Hope your knee is nor damaged too badly, Iris (feel better), and you did great with the office party, Tess.
I am soooo glad that I've become accustomed to eating better because I have been put on a low iodine (not low sodium, low IODINE) diet from yesterday until 12/23. The purpose is to make my body starved for iodine so that when I get my radioactive iodine next Fri, the area where my thyroid used to be will "suck up" the radioactivity, thus killing any microscopic cancer cells or residual unseen thyroid tissue.
The diet is killer...no dairy at all, no processed foods, no cured meats (goodbye turkey bacon), no whole eggs (only whites), no salted nuts or other salted foods (can't be sure if salt used in non-iodized), no commercial breads, cereals, cakes, cookies (no problemo), no fish or shellfish, and certain vegetables and dried beans are off limits also, as well as no red dyed foods.
So, my meals will consist of wheat bran hot cereal, egg whites, lean meats, fruits and vegetables. Totally doable, but very strict. There was a chance it would extend until after Christmas and what a BUMMER that would've been.
Also no body contact with the family for 7 days post treatment within six to eight feet due to the radioactivity! I'll have Christmas dinner in the kitchen, and they'll be in the dining room.
So I'll just count my blessings and go with it. Have a great day everyone :)
Shelia that sounds like a tough diet but I know you will be a pro about it. When I restrict myself, I don't think of what I can't have, I focus on what I can have. My father-n-law had radio active capsules put in his prostrate gland and he could not hold any grandchildren or hug any body for 3 months. It was a long period for him but he did it. Special prayers to you for a successful outcome.
Thanks, Tess! I feel the same way about the diet. BTW, I just found out I can't have the Vitatops either (they contain sea salt). I hadn't eaten one in a few days, so I hadn't checked. It's all good though, because I have the sweetest Fuji apples.
If your F-I-L could tough it out for 3 months, then I know I can do it for 12 days. It's really a blessing, because I'm off my meds per MD orders and my hormones are now depleted, so I can't risk a weight gain. I'm tired, but still riding my bike and eating well will keep the lbs at bay.
Haven't been able to post much this week, because Internet has been down......
