My surgeon didn't set a goal weight for me (I actually only saw him during the time of my surgery because I had mine down in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico).  The goal weight I set for myself was 125 lbs.  I am 5 feet tall exactly so this seemed reasonable.  Well, I made it down to 132 and I was ecstatic.  Unfortunately, I was only at that weight long enough to sneeze.  I think realistically, 140 is comfortable, manageable weight for me to shoot for as my goal weight.  I am 170 now, my highest was 222 I believe.  I have 30 lbs to work on losing over this next year.  I am a stress eater and I was working full time, caring for my 90+ year old grandparents (both passed away peacefully this past February), being mom to my two teenagers, taking over all of the housework/yard work because my husband had become (is?) a computer game addict (for the past 5 years) who comes home from work, gets on the game World of Warcraft, plays until he goes to bed, and then stays on the computer playing WoW all day Saturdays and Sundays.  (He's a little better now, but I have enough to deal with so I have had to choose my battles carefully.)  I took the focus off of my surgery and my health for quite a while and managed to pack on the pounds.  I'm not comfortable where I am right now but I've managed to stop gaining for quite some time.  This group is my saving grace...together I think we will all get healthier.  I learn something just about every day from you all.

Hello!  I just found this board and I really need it!

I started at 311 when I had my surgery on 7/14/05, I got down to 180 pounds in 13 months.  I maintained my weight in the 180s for about a year and a half.  I got married and put on 15 pounds and then I got pregnant, I had a great pregnancy and when my baby was less then 6 months old, I was down to 199, while breast feeding for a year.  After that, life went crazy, good and bad and food came back to get me through it.  When I got pregnant with my second daughter, I weighted 225, I got back to 225 shortly after my pregnancy and maintained that while I breast fed for a year, now my second baby is 2 and I am 230.  No more pregnant and/or nursing excuses to snack!

I have been working with a therapist for a while to work through the emotional eating issues, now I need to back on track.  I would like to be 175.  My surgeon never gave me a goal, 175 was my goal, I think I was there for about 50 seconds once when I had a stomach flu!

I will be coming up on my 9 year surgery anniversary, it would really be great to be at goal by then, 55 pounds in 6.5 months, I guess it's possible.

Thanks!

Hi Erin.  Everything is possible, you just got to want it bad enough.  Get you cupboard in order and your healthier foods ready to be consumed.  Dance with those children for exercise and when the weather warms up again get that stroller, wagon or whatever ready and walk.  Those pounds will be ready to fall off, they are just waiting on you for the go ahead.  I wish you the best in 2014!
