I'm glad you got at least some good news on the job front. I know the stress last Fall of working in an elected office was terrible. Things are so much nicer now that the stress has vanished and we're back to a normal work routine.

So far so good on the Weigh****chers this week. I'm fully committed. Tracking everything and following my "rules" that I've set for myself. (ie. limiting my carbs even though they're not forbidden on WW) All in an effort to find what works best for me for a lifetime.

I've had the strangest craving for the past 3 days ----Cheerios.  Breakfast and Lunch the first day. Breakfast yesterday and now for lunch today. What makes it so strange is I ABHOR cheerios. I have never liked them. I never fed them to my kids. Even as a child I couldn't add enough sugar to the bowl. Now one pack of Splenda and a splash of FF Lactose free milk and I'm good to go. I read somewhere recently where they were one of the foods were iron fortified and thought they'd make for one of those mindless snacks (premeasured the whole box into ziploc bags) instead of other junk. Who knew?

Not sure how much I'll be around the computer this weekend. Yall be Blessed.

Hi Ladies

How many calories are you eating in a day? I am trying to plan out my day and trying to stick with 1,000 a day.  This is going to be tough! I am thinking I will get used to it again after a while? Just need to get my mind right (i hope) lol

So far today not so bad, I have only had a protein drink.    Remembering today, chew chew chew and no drinking 30 before and 30 after that is my goal for today.

Also - I am curious, does anyone know if our body ever "Adapts" to the RNY or will we ALWAYS have the malabsorption?

Melissa,

I eat approx 1600 per day - I use MyFitnessPal and have for 8 weeks - so far I have not had to add anything manually and t here are many settings you can customize.  I upped my protein to shoot for 100gms and I also track Fiber instead of Sodium and I left Sugar on there just to glance at.  I am logging and willing to log everything.  MFP also has a barcode app on the phone which is amazingly easy to use!  I have dropped the between meal snacking, which is huge and has helped me to feel less hungry.  The logging has also helped me to make better choices because it functions as a form of accountability.  I participate on here and I am also attending a bariatric physician practice's support groups.  I am relieved to have the feelings of realy making changes instead of being on a diet and I know making some solid progess has changed my outlook on life, work, relationship, you name it, most things are better because inside my head is quieter....

Sorry if any of this was a repeat - this BOTT group and my posts are as much of a cathartic and a place to share my feelings knowing I get some support and others relate, and it is safe to say whatever - helps me and encourages me....

Talk soon!

Louise

Thanks Louise!

I signed up for a MyFitnessPal Account after I saw your post and that does seem to be helping!  I am having a much easier time gaging where I am at, even if I am a little over.  I am trying to mentally get myself to where I need to be and trying to look at food differently again.  I am trying not to let it control my life.  I am feeling better after less than a week.  I am back on my exercise program after about a week off and eating much better.  I hope to see that goal weight soon!

Hi Melissa.  After about two years we no longer malabsorb our calories but we will always malabsorb our vitamins which is way we must take after minerals to keep functioning correctly.  I break down my calories for 1000 calorie diet as follows:  200 calories for breakfast and 200 for lunch and 300 calories for dinner and 2-3 snacks with the other 300 calories.  Then find meals that fit you calorie allotment.  Good luck to you.

Hi, Melissa!
I had RNY in 2006. Just reiterating what Tess said that it's important to have yearly blood work and continue with vitamins and minerals because we will always malabsorb them because the part of our small intestine where they are absorbed has been bypassed.

I also track everything on MFP and keep my calories right around 1200. I upped the protein and fat grams and decreased the carbs. I also track sugar and fiber. I eliminated sugar and refined carbs. I focus on protein, non-starchy vegetables and a max of one serving of fruit a day and an occasional complex carb. I found a protein powder before surgery that I love and that has helped. I aim for 16 cups of non-caloric, caffeine-free beverages a day. I exercise--hard--for 50 to 60 minutes every day and anything beyond that is a bonus. I lift weights twice a week. I ignore any "extra" calories MFP says I can eat because of exercise. I wear a Fitbit and aim for 10,000+ steps a day. I see an RD once a week for support, questions, weigh-in and further accountability. I haven't been able to post much in the last two months but I read everyone's posts. This is what has worked for me since earlier this year to lose my regain and then some after two babies via c-section, not following all the rules (I do again now), etc. I also started with the 5-day pouch test just to decarb cold turkey.
