Back On Track Together
My first post on BOTT
Hello,
I joined this group over 3 years ago and have never posted. In looking back over my weight tracker, it looks like that was the first that I noticed some weight gain. At that time, I am sure I did nothing, told nobody, and did not seek any help or treatment in any way. I managed to get below 200 pounds for about 5 minutes, and I think I just was not able to deal with truly becoming someone closer to a "normal" weight. Since then, I managed to put 30 pounds on...less than a pound a month. The bad habits just slowly crept back in and I probably embraced them.
We moved to Nevada at the end of 2011 and I became totally disconnected from my support system; I really did not see much activity on the OH website and I probably did not look very hard to participate too much. I was not able to find an OH group here in Las Vegas.
My main fear in trying to figure out how to stop gaining weight, as well as how to turn it around and lose what I had gained, was not getting back on the dieting merry-go-round. I lost 130, but never got to my goal weight, and then gained back 30. I had RNY gastric bypass in April 2008, and am really happy about keeping 100 pounds off, but this is not the weight I want to stay at - I would like to get firmly below 200...so I would like to lose 50-60 total most likely.
I attended a WLS seminar with my friend, for support, and that is where I heard about revision...hmmm. So I saw a bariatric surgeon and had an endoscopy to have him take a look at my pouch, stoma, and whatever else they do when they have that camera moving inside me! All was good! He said he does not do revisions, and said if I decided to explore it to really research it. He sorted offered up a band over bypass, but I had looked that up after the seminar and ruled that out. The thing he did do was encourage me to take advantage of all the resources their practice had to offer. So I signed up for their Nutrition 101 - it was great! They also have a variety of support groups. One is run by the doctor, one by a psychologist, one by a nutritionist and there is another that I have not been to, but I think it is support about eating issues. They also have some other classes, but I have not made those yet.
I do feel much better getting back in touch with the WLS community and talking to others that have had surgery. I plan to continue with the different groups. I am using myfitnesspal to log my food - I love the phone app barcode to add foods and so far, I have not had to add anything manually. I was also able to edit the protein so I can track the protein amount, which is higher for us than most people. My labs are good, and have been good, so not behind the eight ball there!!
For full disclosure, I am also signed up at a weight loss clinic to help me get a jump start and further help with getting a handle on my cravings and my late night eating. I have my first follow appt on 9/5, so will be talking with my doc about the meds and doing full re-evaluation at the 3 month. mark. I am doing so much better with the late night eating - and I think that in itself is helping with my sleeping.
I apologize for the superlong post, but I wanted to get it all out on the table, so to speak! I have done some writing on my blog (another helpful tool) and connecting online and face to face with others has really helped. I have lost 11 pounds since in the last 5 weeks or so, which is great for me - I have not been at the weight I am today for two years.
Looking forward to chatting with other BOTT posters!!
