Back On Track Together

Good evening, BOTT friends and hope your migraine is better, Tess
Today was very interesting to say the least. I saw the endocrinologist a week ago, and she did lots of labs in the quest to find out why my osteoporosis is so marked. She is undecided on when I can start Prolia (intramuscular 2X yearly) or Reclast (IV once a yr) depending on my labs, and says it will be at least a yr before we can even consider the recommended spinal surgery. She think the osteoporosis is the result of several factors including my RNY surgery, my thyroidectomy, and possible menopause (she's checking for that too because I haven't had any symptoms (including hot flashes).
Her nurse mentioned a patient who was several yrs post RNY and is 40 yrs old, with a hip fracture and 2 knee replacements due to osteoporosis because her doctor had never mentioned taking ANY supplements except TUMS. So there's that warning again folks..better take Tess's advice on those vits and supplements, because this is some serious business. So I had lots of running around to appointments today. Should get lab results soon.
No recumbent bike workout today due to back pain. Took my pain meds and muscle relaxant and STILL have not gone to sleep! Today I ate:
B: 2 1/2 ozs ham and 1 egg with 1 tbsp shredded parmesan on sandwich thin
L: 1 c tuna salad, lettuce and tomato salad with 2 tbsps shredded parmesan and 1 tbsp light ranch dressing
S: 1 c homemade spaghetti sauce with ground beef (no pasta), Iced coffee with Splenda, 6 tbsps light half & half
D: 4 1/2 ozs lean beef burger on sandwich thin, 3 strips turkey bacon, mustard, 1 tbsp ketchup, few pickle slices
Another high sodium day but the ham is gone and I won't be buying anymore anytime soon, and then it will be lower sodium. Goodnight friends :)

H.a.l.a....that's the proverbial light bulb going on over my head! I never thought about the fact that if we malabsorb vitamins and minerals, then we can also be sodium deficient. I don't add salt at the table, and I am very diligent about the amounts added during cooking. I also buy lower sodium processed meats, and no sodium canned vegs, etc. I was hypertensive prior to my surgery (resolved now), and tend to watch the salt because of that. I'm not advocating using salt so much, but you did put a thought out there that I hadn't considered, and especially so if we take in large amounts of water daily.
I HAD to start adding salt... low BP and postural hypotension (black outs when standing up from sitting or laying down position)
