I’ve been reading a lot on the PS forum message board so I’ve gotten lots of info there and I’ve asked my surgeon several questions too. I would like to know your thoughts on taking laxatives to avoid straining the ab muscles after surgery. When should I start taking a laxative…couple days before, day of, day after surgery? And also, I’ve seen some posts on Lymphatic System disruption. What do you know about that? What should I expect? Thanks Tess!
I took my miralax up to the day of surgery and started back the day after surgery. I did not have a BM until the third day but it was not painful as some folks talk about. I have had some swelling in my stomach and hip areas but very little in my legs. I massage my stomach and hip area above and below my incision line several times a day. After four weeks I am up only about five pounds now was ten pounds and all of my clothes fit me and some are even loose. I think self massage and drinking lots of fluids will certainly help with any disfunction of the lymphatic system. I hope after 3 months everything will be back to normal again.
Life is CRAZY but sooooooo good right now. Things are going well with my Mom's health right now. She still has to have the carotid surgery but that won't even get scheduled until the end of June. She's just started cardias rehab and the doc wants her to do a month of that before he'll clear her for the surgery. The wedding plans have completely fallen into place....almost overnight. I am amazed by my family (mostly my Aunts). They're planned every single detail for me. Basically David & I just need to show up.
Now that warm weather is here it's getting easier and easier for me to be much more active.
wakeup: Granola bar w/ morning vitamins
commute: coffee
snack: 1/2 everything bagel w/ cream cheese
lunch: 1/2 roast beef sub
snack: apple w/ peanut butter
dinner: grilled chicken & asparagus
snack: no sugar added fudgecicle & evening vitamins
Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Hi Tess and BOTTers.
Life is interesting. After number of tests and more tests, I got diagnosed as having SAI. That as I was told I need to learn to live with.. I started cortisone replacement therapy - that I was told I will be on for the rest of my life. I have to take that 2 + times a day. Typically 15 mg in divided dosages, but that I need to monitor how I feel, my stress level and up as much as I need to. Of course it is a fine line between the "not enough" and "too much", when the "too much" may not show until it is too late. On a good note - I do feel like a more normal person since I start taking the hormone. Even my depression is much better and I don't need to drink as much coffee every day. Also - my BS gets stabilized and I can go for hours with no eating and my BS will be stable. But I still deal with severe RH (yeap - I tried that lol) so my diet is kind off like it was before.
My belly pain is still there... and more tests have been done. I am going to see my doc this Friday and I am not sure what the results show and what we - he will do. I feel that surgery may be in my near future - it does feel like either some twisting or adhesions..
If he operates - that may help - for good - or at least for a while.
My weight has been up due to the cortisone pills (water retention) - but that is OK and normal. I rather be heavy and normal BP and BS. I know that once things stabilize I may be able to start exercise... and follow proper diet. IN a mean time - not gaining too much (just 2-3 lbs is OK) and making sure my body gets enough proteins and fat and water is my priority.
So overall - I am doing much better that I was doing even a month ago.
All my docs can and do work with each other and so far I do like and respect all of them. I have a great team.
One more thing to fix and I hope things will be better.
Have fun folks.
PS: I do miss food... veggies and meat and more veggies...
