A daily can of coke...

I am struggling with soda.  I have tried to kick the habit multiple times, but always relapse.  Most of the time I would rather have a soda than eat.

My mom told me last night that she heard a statistic that one daily 12 oz coke increases your diabetes risk by 22%.

I know all the detriments of soda, but my addiction seems to outweigh reason.  For some reason, this quantification really resonates with me.  I try to delude myself that everything is okay in moderation and that one can is 140 calories, which I would happily exercise off to have...BUT an increased risk of 22%-Holy cow, this does scare me.

I did not do any research to confirm or deny, but hopefully the next time I want to drive through MCD's because they have my favorite, it will deter me.

Full can of soda shaved as lot of sugar. And it is really HFCS - something really worth avoiding. The fructose really cash add to weight gain. There is a lot of study whats fructose does to us. Google that.

I still struggle with soda sometimes too.  All I can tell you is that as far as I know there is NOTHING out there as far as research goes that says soda is good for us.

Yep..soda is bad bad bad for us...that being said, I understand your struggle.  I was a 2 liters per day drinker of Diet Pepsi!!!  Last year...I just decided that was it. NO MORE POP!  I substituted Crystal Light.  I drank way more that 2 liters of the per day because I was missing the Diet Pepsi but it helped me beat that PEPSI addiction.  The difference in the way I felt was amazing!  I no longer felt bloated, I did have a bit more energy and way less gas.  I'll tell ya, my grandkids will tell ya, Grandma was a FARTER!!  Not just a farter but a grand champion Faaaaarrrrrrrrttttteeerrr.  After a month of Crystal Light, I began substituting plain old water and weaned myself off the Crystal Light.  Now I only drink water.

I'm not a saint, I will occasionally have a soda but I didn't do that until a year of drinking only water.  I will say that now if I have a soda, it causes bloating, less energy and causes me to want to snack more. So,  I won't have one again anytime soon.  My overall health is much more important to me. I'm 60 yrs old and in the last 1 1/2 yrs these are the changes I made slowly over that time:

Stopped smoking - I was a 2 pack a day smoker

Stopped Diet Pepsi

Stopped over eating - I now log my food and stay under 1300 calories per day

Began walking 30 minutes daily - DAILY I faltered for about a week and a half because I tried to change the time of day I was walking.

Again, these changes took a year and half.  I made sure I had the first one beat before I moved on to the next.  I'm an old dog so I have to learn my new tricks slowly, 1 at a time and once I find something that works for me, I have to stick to that.  Not time for the next step because I haven't beat the walking daily yet but I'm close.  When I have it beat, then  I will exercise more...thinking about getting the Total Gym...you know the Chuck Norris equipment. (wish he would stop dying his hair).

For now, I am happy...I have 21 more lbs to go to hit my lowest weight after surgery and another 40 after that to hit my goal BUT my main goal, is to LIVE TO LIVE!!!
