Off to a good start in Sunny Carolina this morning. My guys made sure I had a wonderful birthday yesterday and what was supposed to be grilled chicken turned out to be traditional southern fried. OMG I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Today is a solid back on track day. I'm realizing that I can have a meal (or day) that's off the plan and then get right back on track without buying in to that mentality that I've failed.

Commute: Coffee

Breakfast:  Scrambled eggs w/ cheese

Lunch:       Subway (probably tuna on flatbread)

snack:       protein bar/shake   (got options for both)

Dinner:      Hamburger steak with peppers, onions and mushrooms

lns:           sf jello pudding (maybe)

Good morning Iris, Tess and fellow BOTTer's,

That's the mentality that has been my downfall for forever.  If I deviate even one day, I find it so hard to "get back on track", and sometimes it takes months for me to do so.  Since finding this group and de-carbing, the carb monster has been satiated (but still lurking), but in the meanwhile, I am almost terrified to put any trigger foods into my mouth.

I know the term "everything in moderation", but that does not fit my mentality, because I am afraid I will be unable to bounce back due to my past failures.  I also know that you should not be so strict that you disallow any foods, because that can doom you to failure (not always), so I try to find substitutions.  Unfortunately, there is NO SUBSTITUTE for SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN!

One day, I hope to be as strong as you are.  Until then, I just have to do what's working for me...as we all do.

And, Happy belated Birthday!

You're right about the substitutions. In the case of the chicken I'd rather have one really, really good piece every 6 months than something mediocre at best more often. I know I also had the failure mentality when I looked at how I ate as a "DIET".  This is fuel for my life and I have to look at it from that vantage point now or else I set myself up for utter chaos.

I'd never say I was strong...just learning.

That's how I'm looking at it also, not as a diet, because diets are temporary.  This is my new lifestyle, and as you stated, "fuel" for my body.  Fried chicken I could do but just haven't done yet.  It's the sweets that I have to avoid even though I didn't have a sweet tooth pre-op.

Yes, you're learning Iris.  But you're also teaching as you go along.  We're all learning, and I'm hoping more members will post their thoughts, trials, tribulations, failures, successes and opinions.  We can all learn from, and "teach" each other.

I thank every one who posts here frequently (and infrequently).  It really helps a lot.

Good morning BOTT friends,

Very hectic day yesterday and I didn't get to post my meals.  Yesterday I ate:

B:  protein shake made with cold coffee, 2 tbsp creamer

S:  apple slices

L:  4 ozs deli ham on sandwich thin with mustard, lots of lettuce, tomato

S:  protein bar

D:  KFC grilled chicken breast and leg

Shelia:  I understand about the evils of forbidden food.  Some times I can eat one item and be okay, other times I can eat a forbidden food and go off on a bender and gain 4 lbs. without blinking.  My outlook on this now is do I want to risk the gain for the forbidden fruit or not.  Most times no but some times YES!  When it is yes, I don't let it continue for more than a few days and then I am back on the straight and narrow.

Hi Tess,

That's a great way to sum it up.  Some triggers will "allow" me to bounce back the next day, but there are some that traditionally have sent me on a downward spiral for months.  I last tried getting back on track over a year ago, then we had one of our big extended family gatherings.  I fell, and I fell hard!  It has taken me all this time to try again.

The other day, my sister mentioned a "family gathering" for Easter.  At first I said to myself "no", but then I decided I can do this with certain foods in moderation, but desserts will definitely be off limits.  I'm not that strong....yet :)
