5 Day Pouch Test

Good afternoon, fellow BOTT's!  I had posted a couple days ago that I was on Day 4 of the test, but I had an omelet for breakfast that morning, and a fried egg that evening as a snack.  I was questioning whether that was being true to the test because I didn't realize until later that night that day 4 was supposed to be ground meat and firm fish.

I know that there is some leeway given here., I mean, supposed you are not a fish eater, don't eat red meat, etc.  But I was figuring on maybe you were supposed to stick with foods of that texture on day 4, and the eggs didn't qualify.  Well needless to say, I'm a little anal, so I repeated day 4 on Sat. which was supposed to be day 5, and today I am on day 5.

Day 4 (repeat)

B:  protein shake

L:  6 ozs meatballs with 1 tbsp salsa

S:  2 ozs same meatballs

D:  6 ozs broiled salmon filet with crusted parmesan topping (no bread crumbs used)

Today is day 5, and I can't wait for it to end so I can get some vegetables in.  That was the worst of the test for me....not eating a salad here or there, or my beloved brussels sprouts, asparagus and collard greens.  I've been drinking only tap water (no bottled stuff for me) and I love it from a bottle, frozen and drink it as it melts.  I freeze two 32 oz bottles and go through them each day.  Somehow I like it better than drinking plain iced water from a glass.  I also eat ice chips constantly between meals (yes, I am anemic).

I will post later about my eats for today.  Wishing everyone a great day!

Glad it's going well for you. I used to always be an ice eater but once I started having teeth trouble I stopped and have never gone back. I too love to freeze my water bottles and keep it cold. There's nothing less appealing that room temperature drinking water (maybe warm beer - but that's another topic altogether)

Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Warm beer...nasty stuff.  I had the ice hurt my teeth sometimes too.  I just took Tylenol and continued chewing (I am hooked for real).  This is the end of day 5, and I am a happy camper.  I plan to continue with, protein, vegetables and water, and I will add my ff/sf yogurt, sf jello and sf popsicles (more ice) when I want something sweet.  Thanks so much for the well wishes, and thanks to all who so warmly welcomed me here and replied to my questions.

Day 5 of pouch test:

B:  protein shake

L:  leftover meatballs (4 ozs with 1 tbsp lowfat cheddar and 2 tbsp salsa)

D:  sauteed chicken tenders marinated in lowfat Italian dressing and herbs, 6 ozs.

S:  protein shake

Goodnight to all!

So glad that you have done so well Shelia.  I love to crunch ice too!  I use to go to the Sonic (fast food) and get a large cup of ice only because their ice was little pebble size chunks and i could chew on it for awhile.  It would keep my mouth occupied and keep fluids in too.  Win Win!

I do that too, Tess.  I have become an "ice connoisseur" over the last 3 yrs.  Everyone at work knows of my ice addiction.  I swear, some days it was the only thing that got me in the ready to work mode.  We have the BEST ice on my floor at the hospital where I work, and before I could sit down for report on my patients, I had to get my TWO cups of ice and munch happily through report.  I would go through up to 10 cups sometimes.  I know which floors have the best ice, and sometimes I would visit them on my break to "get their ice".

Imagine someone coming to your unit at 3 a.m. (I work 7pm to 7am) asking for admission to your kitchen to get ice to eat.  I got some really strange looks sometimes, but they all got to know me eventually.

As for the fast food places and restaurants, I think Sonic has the best that I've experienced here, but not as good as the ice at my workplace.  And it has to be eaten while it's dry.  After it starts to melt it's too hard and the texture changes.

For those who think I'm insane and all ice is the same, it's not necessarily the taste, it's texture for me as you bite into it.  Gotta go get some now :) and thanks for the compliment, Tess!
