Back On Track Together
Here we go!
I didn't stray too far from the track, but far enough that I am not happy with my weight. I'm 9 pounds heavier than my lowest weight, but I really would love to lose around 30 lbs.
Made an appointment with my surgeon and his dietitian for next month (soonest I could get in!) to discuss specifics of what I should be eating. I need a refresher!
I'm nearly 8 years post-op, and everything I'm trying diet-wise is a total failure.
Can anyone tell me how many calories I should be aiming for, in order to LOSE at this stage of the game? I have seriously tried everything. Praying for answers that help me, and soon! Thanks in advance.

for anyone to even try to help you - we need to know roughly your height - your body build - and your activity level - exercise.
i.e I am over 50, but rather fit, 5'3" 164 lbs, but with body fat at 24%. Size 6-8. I ma moderately active so to maintain I can eat as much as 1400-1800 cal per day - as long as I stay low carb, (less than 50) with no simple carbs with 120-150 gr of proteins per day. (rest calories from fat)
I may start losing when I average app 1200 cal per day - again on relatively very low carb diet. If I drop below 800... I stop losing and may even gain. I also may eat more - when I start more aerobic exercise. (don't have much time - or want to too much)
Safely - start monitoring what do you do now: calories , fat , proteins, carbs. And how much activity you have. If you maintain on the current diet - then eat 200-300 calories less per day to lose app 1 lb a week.

Hi Fluffygirl:
Welcome to BOTT. I just posted a message under Colleen question that will probably help you too! Don't think of yourself as a diet failure. We just have not figured out the game plan yet. We are all winners here because we all show up to the game. If you would, give us a little more information about you and your diet and we will try to see what we can offer you for help. Glad to have you on board.
I am 33....8 years post-op.
165 lbs ...medium build...5'1".
I use the treadmill regularly....30 min, 5x/week. I walk at 3.5 and jog at 5.0. I average close to 2 miles a day.
I have tried eating at every calorie level. I have done 800. I have done 100. I have done 1200. I followed a formula online and it said 1675, so I even tried that in desperation. I don't eat simple carbs. The worst thing I eat carb-wise is the occasional banana and I do love veggies. I average between 80-120 grams of protein depending on the day. I get most of that from food, and I have a protein shake after workouts. I drink minimum of 64 oz water daily. I wait 30 min between eating and drinking.
Thanks for all of the responses! I'm looking forward to hearing what my surgeon and dietitian have to say in a few weeks.
Until then, I'll continue upping the intensity of my workouts, eating 1200 cals (or maybe 1350 as suggested??), and at least 100 grams of protein daily. White carbs are the enemy...protein is my friend lol :)
I look better, my clothes fit better, and people are noticing....but the scale isn't changing. That's ok..the other NSV's are great, I'm just ready for the scale to recognize my hard work, too :)
Again, I appreciate the replies and advice.
