Back On Track Together
Is this weird? Anyone else?
So I'm trying to understand what's going on with me.
I'm 5.5 years post op. I never had regain until a couple of months ago. I was up 3lbs from my 180 I maintained since 1 year post op, and 3lbs is my gain limit before I back off the carbs to lose again. And I can usually lose that 3lbs in a couple of weeks. Well. I weighed in at 183 one day and 186 the next day and 188 the following day... and now I bounce from 186-188 and have done so for two months. In that two months I've been working out like a demon, and strictly tracking my food and exercise on sparkpeople. I get about 1500 calories a day, 100g complex carbs and 100g or more protein. Because it was alot more than 3lbs, I felt I needed to be very strict, as opposed to just cutting back carbs and not worrying about tracking anything.
Now, the odd thing is? I didn't track my intake this entire time. The first few months post op I had to measure food and track protein and water of course, but beyond that? Not for a minute did I think about a food or exercise diary, I just did it! But it seems like me tracking it now is actually making it worse!
Does anyone else experience this? I can't figure out if I'm being too restrictive and holding onto the weight because my body isn't getting enough fuel, if 1500 is actually too much and I was eating less than that before and didn't know it, OR if somehow the strict tracking is having "the diet effect" where you want to eat more because you think you can't. Looking at what I've tracked, my eating is pretty damn stellar. Lean meat, vegetables, some complex carbs and a little fruit. I eat a banana twice a day because I have to take it with my iron or the iron (or vitamin C that goes with it) burns my stomach badly. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't even eat those. Of course I have a few bad days a month, thankyouverymuch PMS. But tracking even that, my calories still end up around 1500 though my food choices a little more on the carby side.
I'm puzzled. I'm going soon for a metabolism test to see what my resting metabolic rate is. That will be helpful, but I can't get in until January and I'm not a "I'll start my diet back after the holidays" kind of person.
I'd really appreciate some advice.
