Good morning Tess and Botts:

It's snowing in CT..the weather will get progressively worse throughout the day and evening! I'll be home by 3pm (don't live too far from work)

I weighed in this morning at 173.2!! Yeah!! What did I do?? Well, I changed up my diet, by increasing my food intake yesterday, switched alot of what I normally eat around. Drank most of my fluids, and really ate a little extra. Also, increased the protein like crazy.

So today, I will cut back a bit. Shock my body and confuse it. So here's the eats for today:

Coffee, and already had lots of it!!

BREAKFAST: Chocolate Muscle Milk (25 grams of Protein)

WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER

VITAMINS, VITAMINS, VITAMINS, VITAMINS

LUNCH: Oatmeal 1/2 cup....1/2 cup of milk

Drinking some 2% milk throughout the day to increase protein

SNACKS:  Peanut butter and cheese, and bell peppers, and handful of peanuts

DINNER: Scrambled eggs (1 egg) with cheese, and salsa on the side

NIGHT SNACK: Milk and peanut butter

I'm going to batten down the hatches and hibernate and enjoy Lifetime tonight! Make it great everyone!

Be careful coming home this afternoon.  Great news on the scale front.  Do you usually lose power with this much snow heading your way?  We always lose power in the south but mostly it is because we get so much ice/sleet mixture that break the power lines down.  Stay warm and  enjoy your lifetime.

Good Afternoon!!!! Better late than never. It's just been plain out busy in the office the past few days. But I'd rather be busy.  Last night's dinner out was wonderful. I had planned on having a couple of drinks but once I saw the guacamole cart I passed on the liquor and went for the chips and dip. The fish tacos were out of this world too. I still can't believe that my baby is now 21.

Tess & Hala ---yall were right on the money about the labs. Talked to my Doc (favorite doc from another practice that I used to go to but she took an extended maternity leave and then went with a different group----long lost doctor story) on my lunch hour and she was not impressed with the results. Then when she pulled the last set from the other practice that I was at she was really not impressed. As of this evening I have to double my D3 dosage (morning and evening). The B12 was not nearly enough so for now it's 1000 in liquid form. My Iron was low so add a 64 mcg w/ oj to the rotation. And up my fish oil to twice a day.  As long as the fatigue seems to be the same or letting up then I go back in 6 months for another draw. Any more fatigue, dizziness or just in general change in mood and behaviors then come back sooner.  She had looked over my food logs and said she really wouldn't change anything other than trying to incorporate more fresh fruits and veggies to offset the additional iron I'd be taking. Portion control & Hydration  were her suggested focus. She made a comment that makes sense as far as ease of portion control. "Make your plate for each meal and then eat half. 3 hours later go back for the other half" As long as I'm staying on track like I have been for the past month then it would ensure my meals were balanced and blood sugar would avoid surges and I could hopefully supress those carb monster cravings.

One more comment about my labs. .....The whole reason I had Gastric bypass surgery was because I had been diagnosed as Diabetic (I am terrified of needles) and I was at the point of having to go on insulin. Since I came out of the hospital I have not needed any medication for it. My fasting sugar was 81 last week. In my eyes I'm still a success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lunch:            Lean Cuisine & Tea

What was your D3? and B12? how about B1?

ferritin? (iron storage?)  - what iron are yuo taking?

what about calcium and PTH? The PTH is critical for us... the PTH is a factor that shows if the body is using its own calcium storage (bones, teeth, etc) to keep the blood level of calcium leveled. We need stable calcium level for muscles to work well... but body will "steal" the calcium form bones... and only later, when people get osteoporosis that the issue become critical.  It is easier to keep calcium leveled with supplement than to try to rebuild bones.

With lower B12- once a month injection is easier and cheaper... I do that myself... it is really easy.

When I talked to her I didn't ask for the specific numbers  (Dang!) she did say the D was extremely low and that the B & Iron were in the lowest levels of the low normal but for me that was probably too low. She is having her receptionist fax the reports over to me on Monday so I'd have them for my file. I will be checking everything with a fine tooth comb then. (I may need to shoot a copy to you for review). I know I'm guilty of having just taken a doc's word that everything was okay before because, well, that's what I wanted to hear.

I'll admit that this journey is a learning process and thank God there are folks like yall out there to help navigate it.

Thanks!!!

I have been where you are... some from RNY board - Andrea - really helped me.

I would like to help you once you have the results.  My suspision is that not all was tested. (unfortunatly) That happened to me. And I had to have 3 tests to finally have complete picture...

With B12 and B1 - to low levels may cause irreversible damage to your nerves.. (like brain? foggy thinking- memory - balance)  and low D3 is really bad for your bones, viral infections (cold  - flu, overall immune - people with cancer show low D3.... )

All of those when low may cause low energy... depression..  As well as low proteins level... you did not mention that...

I know all of that... because I was dealing with some of that... depression, low energry... and my doc was telling me "all is fine".... Some were borderline fine... and way too many were just "borderline" fine... so combined effect was not very good for me.

Now - I get B12 shots (do it myself), plus I get 50K D3 dry - once a week or 2 times (winter - but some people need that 2-5 times a week all year) I take calcium... I had to have iron infusions (I don't absorb iron) and I feel like a new person.
