I had GBS 4 years ago and have gotten off track.  Can you still lose weight after 4 years and age 56. Has anyone else lost weight after 4 years and seasoned in age?

There is only one way to find out! The best thing you can do is try again.

If you havent 'tried' to get back on track in some time, try just getting back to the basic rules. Lean protein first, followed by veggies then fruit and good, healthy complex carbs. I found it easier to journal what I was eating (not necessarily while I was being perfect) to LOOK at what I was eating all day. Adjust from there.

I really like to use Sparkpeople (free!) to count. I cant have a cell phone at work and that site allows me to login online at work for tracking as well as using my phone at home. Lots of support, tips, recipes and workout ideas there.

Good luck to you!!

I did.  I got run over by the train and gain 70 lbs.  It took me 9 months to take it all back off again but I did it.  I ate under 1000 calories a day while losing, and I exercise by walking for 1 hour a day.  I kept my proteins between 80-100 grams per day and my carbs under 100 net while losing.  I journal everything that I put in my mouth and I drank 60-80 ounces of water and fluids daily and took all my vitamins too.  It is not as easy the first time around but if you set your mind up for it, you can do it.  Everyday that I stayed on track was a victory and everyday that I was not on track was a do over.  I went back and read what all the newbies were doing and I pretended to be a newbie too.  Good luck to you.

I had screw up days but most importantly I was good 95% of the time.  I started the day after Mother's Day and reached my goal the end of February.  I had to survive a vacation in Branson, Mo., Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine's Day.  Some days I looked that cupcake in the eye and walked away...others days, I bit him...

Hey there...

If those *****sponded to this post can do it, so can we. I am on this band wagon with you. I had mine 7 years ago check out my old profile Rcoon...

I lost over 180 pounds and gained 50 back. I started 2 weeks ago to get back to the good habits again...

Water

Protien

lower carbs

Less junk

More healthy choices

And I have an exercise accountability chart on my refriderator.

I put up a pic of my pre bariatric weight as a reminder of what I once was.  The exercising is invigorating and something that I never really accomplished before. Now, I am up to walking 2 solid miles every single day when I could barely walk 1/2 mile there and back combined.

What do you need by way of support? I will do anything to see you safely to losing again.

You know the saying...a single mile begins with a single step...let's step on the losing side together.

Remember, we have a tool...it may be a bit rusty, but we can poli**** and make it shine...

Let's do this.

Thank you, Rae for your reply.  I hate that I ever tasted sweets again. I know it will be hard but it is doable.

I'm doing it now, too and it's working.  I had RNY in 2006 a baby in 2008 and another baby in 2010.   And I am older, late 40s.  Yup babies in my 40s.

Started with the 5-day pouch test just to break the carb cravings

Here's my basic plan now:
800-1,100 calories
3 small meals plus 1-3 snacks
no grazing between meals,
eat meals in less than 20 minutes, east slowly and chew each bite thoroughly
no sugar or refined carbs
protein first, then veggies
no fruit or any other carbs at this time, stay at or below 30g carbs
90-100g protein (now trying to up it to 120-150g)
stop drinking 5 minutes before I eat
no drinking during a meal
wait 30 minutes to drink after a meal
minimum of 64 oz calorie-free fluids, aim for 128 oz
30 minutes exercise daily (I'm walking the dog every night)
write done everything I eat and drink and any exercise I do
I still have to start logging it into a website so I can see how I'm doing as far as calories, protein, carbs, etc.

Good luck!  You can make this work!

No fruit.  Would 1 cup of fruit hurt you.  I love fruit.  Can leave the sugar alone, but I need one cup after dinner each night.

I love fruit as well and it's so good for us.  I'm  just opting not to eat it right now to keep my carb count down.  You certainly eat it.  You'll see that others include it in their eating plan whether they are trying to lose or are back at goal.
