Hi everyone..

I had gastric bypass December 2, 2009.. I went from 290 to lowest weight 168 and now I find myself having gained 20 lbs!  I am so distraught, and upset with myself.. I slowly started to eat bad..

I am in day 4 of the 5 day pouch test and I  am feeling my pouch again!  YAY!  My question is, what do you do after day 5??

Hi Helen!!

Im on Day 4 of the 5DPT too!! Less hungry now huh!!

Ive done it around 6 times...seems like every time I finished it...I would go right back to eating/drinking...my preference...complex carbs...and lots of em! ....Im talkin veggies, legumes, nuts, seeds, grains and simple carbs: every fruit

Ocassionally crap stuff... when out dancing and drinking!! Ive cut down boozin it up in a major way in the past 6 weeks. I'll have a 2-3 drinks when out every other week now vs. 6 every weekend!! .

My plan & strategies this time....Im takin Day 6 and beyond...one day at a time....and slowly start introducing hi fiber veggies ONLY into my diet after I eat the 4 oz of 5DPT proteins. ....do that as long as I possibly can...and only occasionally having certain fruits like berries, avocado, starchy legumes like beans, peas.

Im wantin to do things a bit differently this time around.

I had a 25 pound regain by 2 yrs out. Was able to get 22pounds off at various times throughout the past year n a half....but just yo-yoin..~6 months ago my doc said I was 3.5 pounds from a normal BMI. .Right now Im 13 pounds from it...like he jinxed me or sumthin..HE DID IT, its his fault..lmao! like I got permission to screw myself up! I couldn't handle what it took, or the pressure, of being successful at this! Just self-inflicted miserable...similar to the "old me" thinking. Im DONE with being overweight! FED UP...... I wanna get into a NORMAL BMI again!

....I want this so bad now I can taste it! I never was so determined to make this happen...ever . My mind wasn't clear on what I really wanted out of my post op wls. I see the light at the end of my tunnel.....very clearly now.

I do not know how to help YOU....but maybe a little of my plan ...may get ya thinking about making your own plan....Day 6 and beyond

Thank you so much for sharing!  On top of the WLS, I had relocated to Florida and their are no gastric bypass surgeons in this area, nor support groups!

I just got very relaxed and the carbs snuck in and took over!  I too was drinking alcohol.. I was amazed at how quickly I can feel the effects, but the drunk feeling seems to wear off fast too.. I don't know why it just does..

I was hoping to see some weight loss on the scale.. Sunday weight 190, Monday 189, Tuesday 189 Wednesday 186 and today 187 uggghh!

Drinking adds a lot of calories that you may not even realize you had. This will add to weight gain. It also tends to help us eat without thinking when we are drinking. So we pile on the calories and then have to work like mad to get back to where we want.
I only drink on rare occasions because of this and alcohol hits fast but doesn't last.
To stay buzzed you end up drinking a lot. So not really worth the trouble.

I have not been able to find out why the alcohol leaves the system so fast

Acohol is liquid so it does not stay in the pouch. It is absorbed in the intestines but since the small pouch does not hold some like the old stomache did once it passes through it is just gone. Before it took longer to leave the stomache so it lasted longer.

I do eat 5-7 meals a day. proteins and fat at every meal, + some veggies.
Some fruits with some of my meals (maybe)
Drink in between the meals.

Eat slowly - and measure my food before I start. Make sure I do not overeat. I will wait to make sure you are full - after eating maybe 3/4 or the pre-measured meal. If after 10 min I still do not feel full - I may eat the rest.
Make sure you take vitamins and minerals. Very important.  And add exercise - from just walking, house cleaning - to some more "real exercise " at least 2-3 times a week.

When I want to lose weight - I try to eat like above and limit to no more that 1 serving or low sugar fruits per day. No starches, or any other sugar. And use lots of proteins - mostly dense - like meat - keeps me full longer, and do try to limit my calories to app 1000 cal per day.  Then I will add some exercise.
To maintain - I either eat a bit more (1200-1500 cal ) but still limit the carbs (starches, fruits) but do not limit proteins, some fats (nuts, seeds - raw - no PB - that is limited) and may lack a bit on exercise.  The trade off - I either eat less and don't sweat it - or if i eat more - I make sure I get my butt in gears - high gear.

Thank you for the advice!

Why no peanut butter?  I was told it was a good source of protein.

I do eat PB or almond butter - but - only natural (no sugar added)
But I do limit how much I eat that.

Nuts - specially raw nuts - I normally do not limit - chewing the nuts is work, plus most times you can't chew them as good as grinding does. The more processed the food it is - the more calories our body can absorb - the same applies to raw veggies - vs cooked veggies, or even meats - steak vs. ground meat.
Raw nuts and seeds have enzymes that make them partially non-digestable (like real fiber - they just pass through - I can see and feel pieces     ahem... in my BM... )
Raw nuts - seeds they do fill me up. It also takes a while to eat 2 Tbs of raw nuts - seeds - as compared to nut butter. And nuts' butters (most of them) are make from roasted - therefore more digestable - nuts and seeds.
Nuts and seed or mostly source of fat - most time 2 x the amounts of fat than proteins in grams - or calories - 4 x calories from fat than proteins.
I love raw organic sunflower seeds, or raw Almonds.  I do eat peanuts - but not many. They are more like legumes - beans family so then need to be roasted or boiled before we can eat them.
