Back On Track Together
New Here
Peggy
Welcome to the board.
When I notice that I gain weight and my eating is out of control - I make conscious decision to clean my diet and get back on track. here is what I would do:
Decarb first:
Carbs affect me - Once I start eating them - I get really hungry and want to eat and eat...
So I take a week to eat very low carb diet. But I make sure my Blood sugar stays stable so I make sure I eat every 2-3 hr - mostly proteins and non-starchy, green veggies. During that time I avoid milk, fruits, fruit like veggies (i.e. tomatoes) , starchy veggies and all starches (bread, pasta, etc.) I also try to avoid sugar alcohols (they are my triggers - so even SF gum is no an option) .
After a week on very low carb diet - when I'm longer fill like I want to eat everything in sight - I may introduce some carbs - some fruits (i.e. berries) that do not affect my blood sugar issue and do not cause cravings.
Usually the week is tough... but it is worth the trouble.

I eat for breakfast either something light - like protein shake (water base, or I use unsweet almond milk) or I use any quick meat or cheese.
Money is always an issue. I buy meat in bulk (best value) and then cook it or roast and get the best value and great-clean food for me.
Or it is so easy to fix eggs first thing in the morning. Use any chop veggies, little bit of spice - and a whole breakfast is good to go.
i.e. green pepper + 2 mushrooms - chopped the day before. Mix with eggs, place in microwavable mug, nuke for 1 min. Stir, nuke some more until set. Sometimes I add some cheese, or some leftover meat. Takes less than 5 min to make it. Some days I make double - and put 1/2 in a fridge for next day. (only needs reheat then)
this morning I had 2 -3 slices of pork loin roast (bought on sale - meat 1.99 per lb) with some raw cucumber.
The food can be good, and it does not have to be v. expensive.
I buy lean beef - and some v. low fat turkey - and mic add shredded veggies as a filler - and some eggs or egg whites - and make meatloaf. I typically cook a lot one day every 1- 2 weeks. then reheat.
Snacks - or lighter meal - Greek yogurt, protein powder, flavoring, and some flax meal. I can add some fruits - if I have and want something more "fancy". Served in nice - pretty container - with one (one short) splash of whip cream... and it taste good, looks good and it is good for me...
and so on.
Check what everyone is eating on our daily treads...

I do cook a lot and eat more dense proteins.
i.e. I can often pick up whole pork loin for 1.99 per lbs, get 5 lbs, bake - or roast it - then slice and use that as snacks. add some pre-cut veggies, and I get a meal that keeps me full for 2-3 hrs.
Change that with some beef, or cheese sticks, or even some cubed cheese..I use my protein powder to bake with ... (there are a lot of sites that have recipes) Or I use my protein powder to mix with yogurt and some fiber and flavoring for some nice cool snack, full of proteins.
You may need to buy some samples: I bought protein samples from vitalady.com and found a few I could tolerate. As I get bored with one type - I pick some more samples and change again.
thewolrdaccordingtoeggface.com has many recipes to bake (cookies, muffins) portable snacks.

Thanks again!
Here is a protein coffee recipe that I wanted to share with you and others here.To me it tastes similar to the Men in Black3 drink from Dunkin Donuts.
1 AdvantEdge RTD Dk.Chocolate Protein Shake
1 spoonful decaf instant coffee
1 cup cold water
1/2 to 1 pkt atificial sugar
Mix these together in a large glass and add ice. Tastes real good and adds some extra protein.
