3 years out and can't get my mind right

Well, hi Bott-ers. Glad to see you are still all here. I guess I am finally serious about getting back on track. Im nearly 3 years out, lost 120 pounds but still have about 50 to go. This past year has been very bad and traumatic, so you can imagine the emotional eating I have embarked upon. But  luckily I have not really gained much back, about 5 pounds so thats a good thing, but my resolve is completely gone and I have not exercised in a year. I feel like I have lost all my tools and if it werent for the most excellent restriction, I probably would have gained it all back. I have discovered junk food slides right thru, thats deadly.

So, how does a 3 year outter get her mind back on the game?

Track your intake online:  sparkpeople.com is where I do it, others use dailyplate.com or others.

Make a committment to yourself to at least walk for exercise.  If you're having stress at home, a walk is a good thing.

Hang in there--you're not alone!

Aloha Lynn......I saw that you live in Santa Cruz, and just had to post something to you. I lived in Aptos for 19 years, and my son and DIL now live in Scotts Valley...in fact they just bought a new home there about two weeks ago. They have three little boys (5, 3 & 1) and I was there in January to babysit for five days.......about killed me! Ha. At least I am not packing around 165 lbs. and now CAN get down on the floor and chase little energizer bunnies all day. I WAS ready for bed at 8:00 p.m........went to bed same time as little ones.

Nice to see someone from Santa Cruz on here. Hope life is good for you.

Aloha nui loa,

Hi!  I had to live in Reno, NV, for nearly two years and it about killed me!

I had to laugh about the term "energizer bunnies"--when my grandson was just that age I was amazed at how he just would go and go and go.....  His mother was in her 30's, and I don't know how she did it.  There must be a reason why the Good Lord made women so fertile so young!

SV is nice, but I like being so close to all the shopping and independent movies and Pacific Avenue Mall, etc.  If they just bought they probably got a good price on their new home.  There's a silver lining to the black cloud of today's "economic situation"!

Aloha!

Same problems here. I keep recommitting to myself and then falling off the wagon. Comitting again today!
It is so hard when life throws you curve balls. I found out i have lost my job but need to complete my contract and work there until June.

Many of us have found that checking out Cathy's guidelines at the beginning of our discussion page is helpful when getting back on track.  Don't try to correct everything at once.  Pick on or two, master those, then one or two more etc.

As we think, so shall we eat - so......work with your thinking.  for us our problem is at 1% physical (which our surgery does a fine job of correcting) and 99% mental/emotional (which is up to us to correct)  YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!! You did it before, so you KNOW you can do it again.  Write down all the reasons you wanted the surgery originally - will help focus your mind again.

If you are comfortable, post often and allow us to share your journey.

I agree with what everyone else has said. I'm 3 yrs out and had gained 19 lbs back. I've lost 14 of those pounds just by getting back to basics. I've fallen by the wayside on my journalling though so I've got to get back on track with that. My surgeon has me weigh on a daily basis so that it keeps you in check every day which has helped me a lot! Some people don't aspire to that but I encourage you to weigh at least once a week.

Good luck to you and keep BOTTing!

Jane - weighing every day is a disaster for some - but I have found that for me NOT weighing every day is the disaster.  It is even more true for me now that I'm on maintenance.  When we are losing we have an end point (goal) but maintenance is FOREVER.  So my motivator for staying on track (in addition to the fun clothes I can wear) is that the scales not go up the next morning.  The important thing is to know what works for you and then just do it.  And for you and me that means weighing everyday.

hey, thanks everyone for the excellent suggestions. I am going to start fresh this week, journalling and walking for sure, and taking myself off the carbs; plus i am making that dreaded appointment to my surgeon who i have been avoiding since june.I plan to keep coming here to keep up. It was my life saver during the first part of the journey/

Welcome back and congrats for posting!  You have a lot of positives going for you.  Even though LIFE happens and you had some drama, you managed to maintain your initial weight loss. That alone is a huge success!!! and for 3 years.  Keep up the good work!  You have just begun to get back on track.  I use myfitnesspal.com to journal my daily food and exercise.
