Staying on track

Ok gang,

Over the last year I have really come to love this great group we have. I have learned many ways to get back on track, my problem is staying on track. I do great for 2 weeks and slowly start sliding off the wagon until I am watching it take off leaving me in the dust. So heres my question.... How do you guys stay on track? I know everyone has an off day or so but I mean How do we recover and stick with it? All comments are welcome!

Jessica,

I am speechless here because I really believe if any of us had the answer to this very deep question we would not be getting back on track.  I myself have been trying to find the answer to your question on how to stay on track.  I believe everyone is different and we all have to find our nitch to make it a lifestyle change.  I know that is the key but how to find that key to a lifestyle change is elusive to me.  I do know that it depends on us and no other person can give us this answer.  We can support each other but we can not do it for each other.  This is up to us indvidually.  Hope this helps some even though I know I did not really answer your question.  Never give up on yourself whatever you do!!

Oh Jessica you are killing me.  If I could knew the answer to staying on track I would put the weightloss surgeons, counselors and everyone else out of business.  I get off track for so many different reasons.
We recover and start over again because we know if someone else can recover we can too. We get redetermined to do better.  This site and other positive people and things in our life aid us in helping ourselves.
We want to get back on track so we do it.  Yes, I fall off time and again but remember the good results of staying on track.  Like anything else sometime there's a setback but we don't quit trying.

Jessica - As you say, we all get derailed from time to time.  For me, and I'm still very much a work-in-progress on this, it is accepting that that is going to happen and not allowing myself back into the "I'll get back on tomorrow (though that's usually the way I actually do this) - Monday or some other future time.  But get back on the rest of the day.  But, like I said, the best I've been able to do is "tomorrow"  and sometimes it's longer - the growth I've had though is that I've got it down to a maximum of 2 days off now.  I will say though that when I get off track I REALLY get off track and pig out big time.  (Moderation - along with patience - is not one of my virtues  That works for me when I'm being compliant, works agains me when I'm pigging out)  Remember the old nursery rhyme - when she's good she's very very good and when she's bad she's horrid"?  That's me.

When I'm off track - I don't weigh, I don't make a food plan (and if I made one and didn't follow it I totally zap it off the LiveStrong site I use, and I don't post here.  Not posting here for several days  was the trigger for getting off track this last time so now I know, firsthand, how important it is for me to post on the Cardio & Cafe thread to hold myself accountable.

Sometimes I think we just rebel against "Forever"   How we think, so shall we eat.  I constantly have to tweak my thinking - whenever it's stinkin' thinkin' the sooner I tweak it the better.

Hope this helps a little.  Be gentle, but firm with yourself and first and foremost BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER - YES WE CAN

I have been thinking alot about this. I know exactly what you all mean, but I cant help but see so many that have not gained 50+ lbs. back or even 5 for that matter. I was curious to know how some are able to stay on board the majority of the time. Are there tips we need to know. I read the articles from shape.com and found them particularly helpful yesterday. I am having a hard time remembering to ask myself if I am really hungry before I eat something, but I am a work in progress.

I think I am jumping to far ahead. Maybe I need to get comfortable with the little goals and keep them as my routine and start working up to the bigger ones. Like when I first started this journey.

Thanks for listening.

Jessica,
I have regained much over 50lbs.  I was on my way back to my starting weight in just a matter of months.  Then it happened, Spring came and the cold darkness lifted.  I first picked up a pen and a notebook and wrote down how I was feeling.  A diary of sorts.  I wrote anytime I needed to just vent or just let all the frustrations about myself out.  I left the diary in the kitchen on the counter because I felt that it was there for whomever wanted to read it.  Myaybe then not only could I have a better understanding of what was going on with me, but the ones I loved could too.  After that was in motion, I went to support group.  Then I decided to give it a try put everything back in motion and conquere myself all over again.  I am motivated now just like in the beginning.  The difference is that this time, I know what happens if you have one little taste or just a sliver of that cake.  It really does all add up.  I am constantly scared that something is going to turn my switch off again, but for right now it is all about perserverence.  I wish you luck with your journey and I know you can keep it together because we are not alone in this.
