Appreciate imperfection.

Some of the most precious gems in the world have flaws that do not diminish their worth. When a diamond is a deep yellow or brown, it is considered more valuable. So, what you might assume is a serious flaw is really a great strength.

Do you judge yourself by impossible standards? Do you berate yourself for lack of perfection? Your flaws make you unique and precious. Your sensitivity means you are compassionate. Not looking perfect makes you approachable. Surviving pain brings others hope. You are not a worthless rock; you are a precious gem.

Action for the day: Think of three people you admire. In your journal, describe their flaws. How do their flaws make them unique and precious? What flaws might people appreciate in you?

Molly, i'm starting to love u.  Almost everything u post sets off a signal for me and i can so relate to what u have written.  My response to ur first two questions in this post  is YES and YES.  Of course i  judge myself by impossible standards (doesn't every body?) and of course i berate (hate?) myself for my lack of perfection.

What is reasonable and "okay" for others and which i am the first to applaude them for is just not good enough for me.   I have no idea when this started but it seems to have always been there.   U'd have thought that since this is my of looking at things (feeling about myself) that i would have been able to lose weight and keep it off without surgery.  But THAT is a horse of a different color.

So, my "flaws make [me] unique and precious", huh?  Well, if the truth be told (and i shall ttry to do so), i really think everyone should have the same standards as i do about myself.  But, if "not looking perfect makes [me] approachable", then that's a very good thing (i think?!).

Think of three people i admire?  Okay, i admire people who have achieved seemingly impossible goals..DUH!  I shall not lower my standards but i WILL add others to my list of admirees.  I think it's time to do so.

Anyway, thank u once again for ur posts...they certainly give me pause and something to consider.
