Ok, so my food is back on track, exercise is going well...water first, less tea.  So why am I failing at my vitamins.  I KNOW they are important, I KNOW not taking them is like sand in an hour glass and my time is running out.  I have my huge pill thing and I just can't stand taking so many pills.  I find with eating very little and then taking 3, 4 or 5 pills at a time I just ate it and by the end of the day I NEVER take them all....

Can you share with me what works for you?  I am just not getting it?????????

Thanks,
Kathy

Why do you take "so many" pills ?  there are some that I can take just on empty pouch or with some prot drinks - and these I try to take first thing in the morning.
I take the following:
M: 2 x mag capsules (400 mg each), 1 antidepressant, 1-2 thyroid stimulants, 1-2 natural energy herbs; 1-2 B50 (hate them), 1-2 amino-acids; 1 SAM'e; etc.  (taken with prot drinks, coffee, etc.)

Then during the day I take 2 BA multi, 3-4 CA; 2 iron, probiotics (caps)

then evening: 2-4 herbs capsules; 1-2 mag, fish oil (if needed),  B50.

then weekly:
b12, D3 (50K once a week); and some others as needed (and can take them).

I still take the chewable.  Some that taste good to me.  I am on the BA multi, the BA cherry Cal, and their iron (though that is tough- my belly hurts when i take it)

I have problem taking pills but I found out that capsules go down easier.

The challenge was to find chewable that taste OK.  - or really good to me.  If they do - I take them as a "dessert" after eating.  The other pills and the "once a week" I place them into daily -weekly organizer and then just take them.  Hate that - but I hate getting sick even more.   taking the pilss with food - never quite worked for me - so I learn to take them with prot drink.

holy cow h2 that is a lot of pills! i take a daily multi  vitamin, b complex, fish oil, iron in am
                                                                pm, fish oil  & iron,
but i guess everyones levels are all different, i have my labs twice a year and everything is great , except  the iron, which i now take an hour AFTER coffee, i am slack about calcium but  bone scan is good so i dont get crazy about that! have a great day, denise    PS< did you know you have to be careful with anti depressants and herbal supplemants?

thanks. That is a lot, but if i do not take the mag - I can't poop.  And some of the herbs - really good, and with the limited food - kind of need that.
Thanks. I know I have to be careful with herbs and antidepressants.   But I do not take anything that may interfere.  Actually Sam'e - (a supplement, not herb)  is recommended for depression and I can feel a difference when I take it or not.
The thyroid herbs - are just derived from seeweeds. It is like eating seaweed salad a first thing in the morning...  lol.  It works.  Most of days anyway.
I am glad your labs are great. Mine were not OK before RNY and with the food limitation - and reacive hypo - I do what I can to make sure things work great.  My current labs were OK - but my iron is low  (ferritin 11) and I think that affected the T3 - so now I am trying to bring up my energy and T3's.
Calcium and Multi - I really like - so that is no problem.

what is It with the iron>?  i take them faithfully and still cant get it  where it needs to be, i am post menopausal so that isn't it,but i also didn't know not to take the iron with the coffee in the am,  that is why i don't get the calcium in, not with the iron!! LOL, i also have the pill boxes, that way i know i have gotten everything in daily and they sit right on the counter by where i measure out my water for the day, cause if i don't do that, i don't get the water all in, it is amazing how we can retrain ourselves to  do it all if we want to isn'*****ears ago i am sure i would have wondered if i could be so structured!! , what is seaweed for?

Seaweed is a great source of iodine and other mineral - important for someone who has issue with hypothyroid - as we age - we do not utilize all the iodine we can - so extra help may be needed.  I know mine does.  I was in Poland during the Chernobyl - so I have reasons to worry about the thyroid.  Also- most likely my thyroid was and is sluggish - so extra iodine is like an extra bust for it - makes is works harder without depleting it and synthetic hormones.
The iron - good question - I was iron deficient before RNy - I just did not do anything for that - well I did - but not enough.  All this talk about not eating red meat, etc.  I used to have a very long, heavy periods.  Now - I do not have them as badly - but a few surgeries over last 2 years - + lack of absorption + the iron hurts my pouch -so... I did not take it as much as I should have been... etc...

Normally - food allows us to restock our iron storage - but 2 years post op - I am using mine reserves and was not recharging. The more iron you take - the less % wise you absorb - so it is better to divide the dosages... (so I read).  Also - taking iron with red meat - should increase iron absorption.  Liver - here I come...

I take lots of pills too. I take my antidepressants and other pills at bedtime. The calcium and multivitamins are harder to fit in during the day. I ordered the wrong calcium which is in pill form but I'm stuck with them so I will take them. I save a yogurt to eat at night after I take my antidepressant, etc... because they make me so nauseated. I've bought some pill boxes to use to figure out how to take my pills. They are AM and PM but that doesn't take care of my lunch time pills, so I have to figure that out. I suppose I'm in the same boat as you Kathy!

Kathy - my dr has us take 2 Flintstone Complete Chewabel vitamins a day (lap band and by pass patients).  I look forward to their fruity taste and I think it's fun munching on little dinasaurs.  Doesn't seem like a pill to me - more like a treat.

Hi, Kathy:

What has worked for me since day one is I have one of those big pill boxes that is divided into days and each day into AM and PM.  Once a week I put everything in them, so every morning I can take them out and put in a little daily pill pack -- one side is for the morning/early afternoon, the other for late afternoon/evening.

I take my iron in the middle of the night, since that is the one that is really touchy as far as being taken with other vitamins.  If I wake up in the middle of the night, I will actually take one and go back to bed.  If not, I will take it as soon as I get up, then don't take anything else for two hours.

I take my medicines and early morning vitamins before heading out of the house, then I take everything else throughout the day ****ep the small one in my purse).

Here's what I take:

Bariatric Advantage calcium
Bariatric Advantage B-50 vitamins
Bariatric Advantage B-12
Bariatric Advantage vitamin D
Bariatric Advantage multi-vitamins
Bariatric Advantage Omega-3 chews
Bariatric Advantage iron
Zinc
Vitamin C
Magnesium
Biotin
Dry vitamin E
Acai chew
Probiotics

Phew!  I think that is all of it!  :)

I have tried a number of different type of vitamins, to include liquids, but this is what seems to work for me, especially the Bariatric Advantage vitamins.  I don't have problems taking pills, but try to concentrate on chewables as much as possible, and I make sure that the capsules are the dry formulation since that, I have been told, is what we should take.

I hope this is of some help.  Good luck!  :)
