shakarira - Certainly protein powder isn't a requrement.  Most of us use it to assure we get our necessary protrien grams, for convenience, and for flavor but the choice is yours.  sometimes it is difficulty to meet protein requirements and keep calories down with food - but it can sure be done.

Shakeira,
I think we can live without protein powder.  But for me - it would not be easy.  Some days I do not feel like eating, and most days I can not eat anything until 10-11 a.m.  These days I add the proteins into my coffee - and make "protein coffee".  It is a breakfast for me - until my pouch and my hunger will allow me to eat something.
I also use protein powder to bake flavorless banana/pumpkin bread.  (I use the prot powder instead of flour, and erythritol - or splenda - instead of sugar).
Also - some days - when i do not feel like eating - I will drink my food.  Keeps me out of trouble.  Not eating too much during the day and then getting really hungry and eating late at night - what got me in trouble before RNY - that's how i got "fat".  I try not to that again.

The flavorless - i use the Nectar medical Unflavored. or Unjury unflavored (more expensive)  if I want whey isolate or the Designer Whey unflavored for whey concentrate.

FYI: if I want to shrink my pouch - and decarb -  would do 1-2-4 days on liquid or semi-liquid diet.

Shakeira,

Welcome to Bott. I too am fairly new, I find this group very supportive, we have so may successful people here and we all started with some sort of an issue. We are all taking the big step in asking for help from our peers who have been there and are doing it.

I have lost 11 pounds since joining OH support groups and still have more to get to my goal for which I have never reached. The outline Cathy gave us is fantastic I have printed it out and have it in a notebook including my food journal. Before the support here I was hard headed and didn't want to write down anything but after listening to so many in the group I did it and it has made a world of difference, I now know what I need to add or eliminate. As for the protein shakes I too get plain flavored and add flavor if I want I also mix mine with water.

Again welcome...

Melva
