Back On Track Together
Protein Shake--Help Needed
Good Morning Bott
I normally lurk but I have a problem. I am seriously trying to get back on track. I am two years out and I about 52 pounds to go to my personal goal.
I purchased Jillian Michael's Whey Protein (chocolate and vanilla) it received rave reviews. Anyway I mixed a scoop of vanilla with 8oz of soy milk, 2oz of Yoplus Light yogurt and a couple slices of strawberries. It smelled ok (that's a plus) but the taste was less to be desired. Two scoops and I had to throw it away, it was thick and taste like old medicine.
I don't want to waste it and I consider it an investment for my health, does anyone have suggestions on how I can make it better or suggest different methods of mixing?
Thank you for your help.

I have no experiemce with that particular protein, but when I try a new protein, I only mix it with water the first time (or water and ice, blended). That way, I can taste the protein.
Now.....if the protein tastes "less than desired", I would first try adding sugar free syrups if I had any handy.
Otherwise, I have found that Swiss Miss Diet (25 calorie) hot cocoa mix is a great "adder". I really like my protein warm during these cold months, so I mix the protein, cocoa and a bit of cold water until it is about the consistency of Elmer's Glue. Then you can add hot (not boiling--usuall microwaved for just under 3 minutes) water or coffee.
If that does not work, try adding one ingredient at a time until you find a mix you like.

Hey Lil-Ray78,
It's really good to see you. I was wondering what may have happened to you. Now, the Protein Powder by Jillian Michael's and The Biggest Loser is no better than anyone else's protein. It's a promotional money making gimmick! I'm not saying its not good, but you can buy protein from any health food store or Walmart that is cheaper and just as good.
I was in awe when they started advertising the Whey Protein Mix on the Biggest Loser, but when I read the ingredients on the label it had basically the same specks as what I'm already using.
I still have some of the dry protein mix, but I basically only use in now it my oatmeal and when I making pudding. I had tried mixing it with Crystal Light, Soy milk, and making a Protein Smoothie but I'm lactose intolerant so any type of milk is out, and the combination of the juice and fruit together sent my Pooh Pouch into a fit...which actually made me dump.
Right now I'm using the EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control 17g w/110 calories premixed, and I was using Muscle Milk Light w/ 100 calories and 15g of protein, but had to stop because of the caffine content.
You might want to try some Protein Smoothies to use it up.

I mix my protein with foods rather than make shakes. Mix with hot oatmeal, mix with Fage 0% yogurt. Add DaVinci sf syrups. I have always used Unjury brand so can't speak about your brand directly. You might try using your blender. Sometimes there's just no way around switching to another brand. Health food stores, at least where I live, will oftenallow you to taste befoe you buy. Sometimes it can be purchased in individual packets (handy for travel) which would enable you to taste with minimum investment. Even if you do end up tossing out what you have, it's still an investment in your health and a lot less expensive than the average drugs we sometimes need to buy for such things as an infection, etc. I wish you well
I've tried a lot of protein powders. Certaintly all that can be purchased at Target or Walmart. Some were OK and I used them because I needed them. But I don't like that thick gooey texture that most of them have. Then I found UNJURY. Love that stuff! It works well with our pouch and is very healthy. I love the strawberry, it can be mixed with water. That saves the 100 calories from milk. It comes in several flavors and I have them all. You can buy trial sizes before commiting to the larger container. I buy those for traveling too. www.unjury.com.
