No coffee w/ breakfast and still hungry.

I saw a new WLS last week, he's going to do an endoscopy and upper GI to check things out since I've gained about 100lbs back in the past 2 years. He also wants me to be sure I'm working the tool. He asked if I drank with meals, I told him sometimes. He asked if I could tell a difference in the amount I could eat with verses without drinking. I told him no, and that actually I often eat less when I drink...using my breakfast of oatmeal w/ coffee as an example. Most days I eat oatmeal (1/2 cup oats, 1 cup soy milk. 1/4 cup dried berries, 1 tbsp sliced almonds = pretty hearty bowl) and drink coffee and I'm satified for hours. One day I didn't drink coffee and I was hungry quickly....odd I know. So this morning I thought let's try this again. Bowl of oats no coffee...finished the oast 20 minutes ago but I could have eaten more...I'm typing this out instead of checking the pantry for something else. I'll make some coffee soon since it will be 30 mins since I ate. This isn't quite abnormal for me I've rarely gotten full on small portions or have food "stuck', etc.

I notice a difference when I have a protein drink with my breakfast. I am not so hungry afterward. Good Luck!

Are you "head hungry" or "tummy hungry"?  Do you drink decafinated coffe?  How manu calories are you eating/day?  Are you taking your vitamins and supplements?  Are you exercising?  Are you eating your protein first?  Then your water?  How much protein and how much water/day.

You might want to check out the guidelines posted at the beginning of our discussion page - it is so easy to stray from total compliance - sometimes without even being aware.  Many of us have found this really helpful.

Hey Buddy!!

I'm so glad to see you here!

It is interesting that coffee makes the difference. As you know, I drink coffee in the morning and that squelches my appetite. If I'm really having a difficult time in the afternoon, if I make a cup of decaf coffee, I can squelch the hungrys too.

I will be very anxious to hear what your new doc finds and tells you. I am happy that you found someone that you like and will be able to help you. That alone will be such a relief.

I'm glad you posted here when you wanted to check the pantry. What you need isn't in the pantry (fridge, cabinets, box of cookies, bag of chips, etc., etc.).

I drink to much coffee but I dont find it makes me eat more.
I have the band and am trying to get back to the band rules of not drinking when I eat. It is difficult but I am trying.   I wonder if it is the extra moisture in the coffee expanding the oats that is filling you up?

I wondered about that also...will try to the no coffee of liquids when I do eggs for breakfast and see what happens.

Try adding a scoop of vanilla whey protein to your oats.  This may help adding the extra protein.  Also, have a talk with yourself and do you think this is head hunger or not?  You can do this

I only have banana protein right now, I use milk so that's at least 8 grams. It's not head hunger, but I also have the heartburn stuff going on so sometimes it's hard to tell if its hunger or heartburn...but that first thing it's hunger hunger especially right after eating...and Kathy this bowl of oatmeal is HUGE.
