Barium Swallow - Pouch Still Small

Well.. I had a barium swallow and to my surprise, 6 years out, my pouch is still small.  So... why did I gain.  Well, according to the doctor between 6-10 years out, your body will fight to take you back to your weight at 6 months out, unless you have been diligent!  Which I have not! I weigh exactly what I weighted at 6 months!! UGH!!

There is hope though.  Diligence will work again.  It will be a little harder this time, my body has a set point in mind and I've got to fight with all my might to change it.  In essence, if I want this, I have to be willing to fight my body tooth and nail.  Diligence, commitment and obedience.  Not my strong suit, but I'm going for it!

Hope you are too!

Jewell - I'm only 4+ yrs out but am maintaining for the first time in my life.  It feels SO GOOD!!!!!

What I have learned is that it takes every bit as much effort, if not more, to maintain that it took me to lose.  I still have to stay within my calorie limit, plan my food at leaast a day ahead (better if 2 or 3 days ahead), and write it down.  But IT IS WORTH IT.

Think you will find that dilligence, commitment and obedience will be more than worth it.  Please don't be shy   Let us know how we can help you - ask for what you need.

WELCOME

Welcome Jewel,

And welcome to the reality of how it is, just so you no 40% of us tend to gain back some of the weight  we originally lost.  a little slower when you try to re-loseYoure absolutely right it's harder  or should I say a little slower when you try to re-lose. You still can lose but its gonna take consistence and diligence stick with whatever you choose but always have a back up plan.
I know thats easily said, thats where I find this group comes in handy. Whatever you are feeling someone has had the same feelings and is there to offer solutions and or opinions, and when you are falling off the band wagon the group is there to lift you up and will keep you going.
Jump in  and whatever you do stick with it, be accountable to the group and to yourself. When I do this I find it easier to keep it up,  I don't want to let the group down that is trying to help me. Does that make sense?

Together we will learn to grow strong  WE CAN DO THIS

That absolutely makes sense.  It's so nice to be able to share with folks who know where you are or how you're feeling.  I guess the key is to not give up.

Here's to our success.  We can do this! :)

And it is nice to have this sort of information since my surgeons sure didn't mention any of this to me 6 years ago! Seriously......I don't understand why none of this sort of information about regain was offered. I would have still chosen the surgery...but it sure would have been helpful to know that regain was SO likely.

All they told me at the outset was.... follow instructions to the letter so that when the honeymoon phase was over, you'd be on autopilot.  I guess the expectation was autopilot for life.  NOT FOR ME!  Hard work from here on out.

In hindsight, wish I had of followed the original instructions.  Can't go back.  Must go forward and work hard or be happy and maintain!
