Back On Track Together

Hi everyone

Glad to receive the pm, it came at a good time. I've been trying to get back on track for about 2 months, but it seems that all my efforts are in vain. No matter how much I'm exercising and limiting my carbs, I seem to keep gaining. When this happens I go back to old patterns of bingeing because I feel helpless, discouraged. I'm at a point that I feel that the only thing that  might work, is dusting off the post op papers I was given after my WLS and following the post op diet once more. I'll start this soon and report the results.

Highest weight:215/ Surgery day:199/ current:139/ Goal weight:130

Hi Jessie,

Welcome back!  I hope you hang out more with us here.  I have found that I am much more "on track" when I post and hang out with other BOTTers,

When you've been off track and even regained weight, it is harder to get back on track and to lose weight.  We lose at a much slower rate so it is easy to get discouraged and frustrated.  I found, for me, not to weigh myself very often.  I go by how I feel.  When I depend on the scale for my internal warm fuzzies, it sometimes doesn't give me what I think I deserve for the exercising and clean eating I've done.  However, when I focus on the fact that I feel good that I'm doing these things for myself and make it about how I feel more confidence, control, not preoccupied with food and weight, I do much, much better.

I hope some of this helps.

Stay in touch!!

Cathy, excellent advice, Just 1 question why do we lose at a slower pace now.

Hi Melva,

You had RNY like I did.  RNY is a malabsorptive, restrictive procedure.  The malabsorptive component is at the highest for the first year (12-18 months, sometimes up to 24 months) after we had surgery.  After that time, our bodies adjust and start to absorb more calories and nutrients.  The theory is that we lose the majority of our excess weight during this time that the malabsorption is at the highest.

If we regain or want to lose more weight after this higher malabsorption period has lessened, our weight loss will just be slower than it was.  We can still lose weight but it will be at a slower rate than before when we were newly post-op.

I hope that helps.

Cathy,

Just reading again your answer  to the slow down after 2 years with the RNY surgery and yes your answer helped alot, I do however have more questions.  Today marks my 4yr anniversary of my WLS. While I am thrilled I have loss the weight I loss, I also would like to get closer to my goal and loose about 50 more pounds. What are some things I can do to help with the steady slower weight loss journey. Slow is ok i jus don't want to stop or more important regain what I've loss.

welcome Jessie

you've come to the right place. Even though I'm still messing up big time, being part of this group helps me keep getting back up and trying again rather than giving up completely like I always have before, and that for me is what this journey is all about - keep on going...they are a great bunch of friends here, very supportive.

The slower wt loss is for the lap band also. You body adjusts to the fewer number of calories and food intake and the metabolism slows. the good news is excercise gets it back up and you still have the band to limit food intake and guide better choices.

I got off track to and with everyones support and slowly trying to loose it again.

thanks everyone.
