Ok I have had about a 15 pd regain and need to get control. So I'm back to drink drinking my protein drinks and eating more fruit and vegtables. But I did read that fruit carbs can be bad. I thought that it would be better because its not refined and all natural. Would some one set me straight on this topic - I can say when eating raw veggies I get fuller faster so I thought I was doing this right but the scale isn't moving!!! Help!!
IMO - There are some fruits and veggies that have more sugar than others. And higher glycemic index. You can google that. Optimal intake, IMO shall be of fruits and veggies with a low glycemic index and glycemic load. (you can google that). Vegetables and fruits are good - but they supply easily available fruit sugars - some of us may not lose - or gain weight when too many of the natural sugars are consumed. I.e. I can eat berries, some apples, grapefruits, but I need to stay away from bananas, melons (including water melon, cantaloupe,, etc), grapes, any dries fruits, etc. When I try to lose weight - I limit the fruits to 1 serving a day - i.e. Small apple, 1/2 cup of berries, etc. But when I am on maintenance - I allow myself 1-2 fruits servings, and if I want to gain - even more than that. I never counted the calories from green leafy, non starchy veggies (lettuce, kale, spinach, etc. also - mushrooms, cucumbers, leaks.) but I am very careful with any others that can be consider as fruits (tomatoes, peppers, etc. ) and some squash - some are great and I consider them a calorie free food - others - more like a low cal starch. (if you can eat the squash raw - it is a low starch food - but anything that need to be cooked - measure your portion).
In any case - every time I eat fruits or veggies - I combine them with proteins and fats - to slow down the absorption of sugars. I try not to eat them by themselves.
