Need ideas on how to break a bad habit....

I need help on breaking the habit of "picking" when I'm cooking. I know those calories add up. I had to make brownies for an event for my daughter and I picked the whole time I was mixing them up and then when I brought the left overs home, I picked somemore! How do you break a habit you've done all your life and it's how you got you to where you were 3 yrs ago? Suggestions please????

Thanks,
Janie

I have tried chewing gum when I cook. Eating food while chewing gum is ewww. Just dont swallow it.

Same thing, gum or Altoids.  Nothing goes with Altoids, the curiously strong mint!!!

Hi Janie,

I am with the other poster.  I chew gum and it works everytime.  When I first had surgery it was before the holidays and I was like oh boy.  But I put in a couple of pieces of gum and while I cooked I never even licked the fingers.

Take care,
Kathy

If there i sno food at home to "pick on" then there is no picking... If I make any food that I have a hard time to ignore - then - I make sure that someone else take the leftovers. At least then - I can only "pick" while I cook and not after that... So used that and gums while cooking...

I second the Altoid idea. I popped one in when I was in the bakery section of the market yesterday and was able to walk away from the slice of cake I was eyeing. Bonus- I felt awesome afterward for being able to  resist temptation. It made me feel in control.
