Reaching Out for Support

BOTTers,

Not sure whats going on with me, but I'm in a funk and feeling low.  I can already tell I'm having thoughts of eating crap that's not on my meal plan for today.

I can't focus and figure out what the trigger is, but it's driving me insane.....

So, here I am, posting and reaching out for support.  Need HELP to stick to my meal plan and goals today.

Any suggestions to help with this "stinking thinking"?

Hugs,
Lisa D. Mtz.

Hi, sorry your having such issues, I know I have had that.  My triggers are carbs, white breads, pretzils, potatoes, white rice, etc.  (I can't do any sugar but if I did, that also)  I have to decarb myself and then slowly add back in the better kind of carbs to get rid of the cravings, desires, munchies, etc.   I know we are all different but that has helped me.

I know what you mean, but I don't think it's a carb thing for me today.  I'm not 100% sure, but I have a feeling that this is an emotional eatting type of urge.

Why?  Well....I had a grilled ck breast salad for dinner and a protien shake for B'fast, so not to many carbs at all.

?????

Thanks,
Lisa

The most important thing until you figure it out is that WHATEVER it is - getting off track will only make it worse.  Rein in that stinkin'thinkin'.  Make a list (write it down) off all the positive things that have gone on already today.  Trust me, they won't be big things, but they are there.

Pat yourself on the back (or some more tangible, non-food, reward) every 5 minutes for you success.

Deep breaths
Take a walk
Mini vacation in your head to most marvelous place you can imagine
Talk to a friend
Promise yourself (and keep your promise) that the reward for a day of compliance is a new something to wear - doesn't have to be something big, doesn't even have to be brand new as a lot of pretty things are available at consignment stores or Good Will - just new to you and a treat
Post every 5 minutes if you need to
Know that hunger DOES NOT = an emergency - you will not starve to death if you don't give in to your craving.
Know that you can do it and you are worth being uncomfortable to take good care of yourself.
Uncomfortable DOES NOT = it's OK to do it

Hi Lisa,

If you can't pin point stress issues like work or home for wanting to grab that food, is it that time of the month?  Hormones our of control is the worst when it comes to wanting to eat, feeling down and tired.  I know what you are going to say, but if you do something physical you will feel better.  Take a walk, swim, put your favorite music on and dance around the house.  Hit a punching bag or if you don't have one a pillow.

Also eat protein first and lots of it on days like this....

When I am in a funk and want to eat, I make a deal with myself and tell myself "self, if you go and do 30 mins of something cardio or list weights and you still feel this way then have at that cookie/cake/icecream".  To this day, I always feel better and don't eat the bad stuff.

Hang in there and thanks for coming to us and asking for help.  That is what we are here for

Take care,
Kathy

I really like the 30 min. of cardio idea.....but most of all, I want to say THANKS for having this group available to me, to us.

I've had several people reply with some amazing ideas and tips to help me get through my day.  The most amazing and motivating part of it all is that it helps me realize that I am not alone with these daily struggles.  There are other WLS people out there just like me.

Thank you so much,
Lisa

Hi, Lisa:

You have been given some wonderful ideas!  :)  What I was going to suggest is very much along the same lines...get out and do something physical.  It doesn't have to be draining, but something where you can get those endorphins going.  It really is a "natural high!"

Hang in there, and keep posting.  This a wonderful group, with so many people very willing to help.

Take care,

You know.....

I felt a little silly posting about needing help to get through today, but the replies from BOTTers have been extraordinary.   The only reason I made it is because of people like yourself that cared enough to take a few minutes and send me some words of encouragement.

It's so nice to know that I'm not alone and others know exactly what I'm dealing with today.  I only hope to reach out to others the way you guys did for me today.

Thank you so much,
Lisa
