Back On Track Together
It won't kill you!!!!!!!!!
As I'm sure you know I'm struggling at the moment keeping on track. Anyway, I've been watching Australias biggest loser - and something that keeps cropping up is a phrase that Gillian uses to urge people on while exercising:
It won't kill you!
It may hurt for a while, but at the end of the day, doing those extra minutes or NOT eating that cookie or eating a smaller portion, denying yourself instant gratification with food etc etc etc. WILL NOT KILL YOU (eating disorders aside here of course).
Is this an answer for my will power? Hmm...It certainly makes me stop and think when I'm reaching for something I shouldn't.

Ruth, I've also noticed her using that phrase repeatedly! It reminds me of the saying that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." (I don't agree w/ that in all cir****tances, but . . . I do get the general spirit of it.)
I'm totally in the PITS w/ my own struggle. I'm so sick of myself and my bad behavior & food choices that I can't even write about it, but I'm still reading this board every day. For this month, I'm just going to try not to gain.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jo
havent' seen you around for a while. Glad you are still around though reading the board. Maintaining is a good goal. Once you feel more confident with that, you can look to losing again if that is what you need.
No point in trying to lift more than you can handle and set yourself up for failure. Its so hard isnt' it, but we need to keep working at it, no matter how tough it gets. one day we'll realise that it isnt quite so hard anymore....
keep reading and post when you feel able to, hang in there, you are not alone

I've NEVER known anyone who fell over dead because they did not give in to a craving. BUT I have known people who gave in to their cravings, were obese and died as a result. One has to set their priorities! (and how do we know what our priorities are - NOT by what we say, but by what we DO. My grandmother used to say: What you do speaks so loud I can't hear what you say.
Ruth:
I lurk here wanting to stay on track--as that has always been my problem before WLS.
Thanks for tthe IT WONT KILL YOU post yesterday. I used successfully this morning.
This morning was day three in a row for exercising and I was a little slow getting out of bed. I just told myself "it wont kill you". Then I told myself that I only had to run 1/2 mile today if I didn't think I could make the full 1.25 miles. After I ran the half mile, I walked for a couple miinutes then ran another 1/2 mile than walked a couple minutes and then ran the last 1/4 mile.
Thanks for the Tip, I think it will really help me when I don't want to exercise.

I love that saying and have to use it when I am walking my 2 miles on the treadmill and want to give up because I am tired or my knees are aching. It Won't Kill Me to finish!
I also have to use it when I am craving those darn sweets and flour products (bread and pasta) which I am choosing not to eat now. I realized I am a food addict. It is not going to kill me to take these choices of food out of my diet. It will actually be better for me
Have a great day all!
