Good news/bad news
Hi All:
The good news is I am down almost 3 pounds since joining your group about a week ago and I have been reading TONS of great posts that have helped me out a LOT - thanks so much!
The bad news is, I somehow accidentally got on a message board where I was slammed with many mean and negative comments and it has really turned me off to OH.
But - today I came back here again and feel pretty confident most of this group is here for the express purpose to help each other out... so I think I will stick it out for another week. If for some reason I disapear I do want you all to know it has been great reading your posts. Cathy - I don't kow how you keep track as well as you do, but you are an inspiration to me!

I am really careful which boards I go to. Try the Lightweight Board. There is no slamming and flamming allowed. Everyone is very supportive. I kind of like the RNY board. It used to be kind of catty but lately I have noticed it is pretty supportive. I stay away from the main board. You can get slammed pretty easy there.
I have lost about 3 pounds this week also. Of course I am losing weight I have lost before. Stick around we can help each other.

I can assure both of you.... the BOTT board is neither catty or rude. We try to strive to support each outher. We don't point out faults... hell, we already know our faults, else we wouldn't be here!.... we listen, we learn, we acknowledge.... I think you ladies and gents have found a good safe haven. I have been here 1 1/2 years.... and had no catty, no ucky. So... I say::

Where are you from. What was your Doc's post opt diet. Tell me, because OMG..... my MOTHER's is like 30 miles different from mine, and we had our surgery 30 miles and 2 years apart. I want to know. Because her post-op advice? So different!!
BOTTers... calling out. Tell me what your doc said. I'm not looking for what you did or didn't do. Just what you were told.

36 lbs from goal!
Wow... because we needed to take classes I was told many different things over the first two years after surgery but I believe the bottom lines (to keep it shor) of what I was told would be:
As far as calories - I was given two formulas one shows how many you should intake to lose and then there is a calculation to 'maintain' current weight.
Protien first, then fruits & veggies, water, dairy and basically stay away from white foods like white flour, sugar, tatoes, if you are trying to lose stay away from even the starchy fruits and veggies for a bit.
For a 1,400 cal per day program I was told 70-88g protein, 158-175b of carbohydrate, 38-46b fat and 2,000 mg of less of sodium. We had a dietian who offered cooking classes and everything - you could go to the class, watch her cook bring a friend and sample before you leave. Great program.
My issue is 2.5 years post op and gaining 20 pounds over the past year - it just sunk in that it won't be 'easy' forever. Of course I did finally quit smoking for 'life' last October and had the tummy tuck in December. I am back at the gym now and am just trying to control my hunger. I make good choices but I am hungry a lot and can't believe how it seems like I stop before I even get full (because I know I should) and then am hungry again 2-3 hours later.
I have also been drinking a cup of coffee after my meals and am starting to re-think that. I think the coffee has started to be an addiction for me and I have to switch back to water and wait half an hour after eating to drink...

I too have had a bad experience in the past BUT I hasten to add, not on BOTT. I have found everyone here without exception to be supportive and encouraging, without even a hint of sarcasm or critism

ALRIGHT, I'M SICK OF ALL THIS NICEY NICEY FELLGOOD PARTY. PUT ON YOUR FIRE SUITS CAUSE I'M GOING TO FLAME EVERYONE.
JK...I love my friends on the BOTT board. Although there are some boards that I go to and read, this is the ONLY board that I post to. Sometimes people here (other than BOTT) forget that this is a SUPPORT web site. Every person that is a member here is either a person whos has dealt with wieght issues and could not do it on their own and needed the assistance that surgery provided or they are a support person of someone with the surgery. How dare someone criticize or put down someone who is dealing with the SAME issues that they dealt with. Just because one person is more successful in their pursuit than another person does not make them better or give them license to jump on others. OH needs to weed these bullies out and ban them from the site. They do more irreperable harm and turn people off and away from the help and support they truly need.

I am not sure what the capital words are on the top though... maybe I missed somethin? Were people being rude to you too? I am not even really sure what it means to "FLAME" everyone...
Also, I agree that whoever runs the site should try to weed out the people who do nothing but try to start arguements - makes it very stressful - worried about even replying to a post that you might get hate comments back for no reason. So far, I figure they are just really unhappy people if they spend all their time trying to hurt others.
Lastly, for the good news (and I hope it is not all water) I have now lost 4 pounds and plan to go walking with my daughter on Thanksgiving day inbetween cooking and eating to remind myself feeling well is better than feeling stuffed.

Hi Cjohn, The caps part of my post was my attempt at humor. When someone has their cap lock on it is the internet equivalent of yelling. Flameing is putting someone down or making fun of them for something they posted. It was my attemp to show how stupid these people look when they have nothing but derogatory comments to make about others.
Great job on the lost weight. Never let anyone control you or the way you think about yourself by their negative comments. Most of the time they are trying to make themselves feel better about insecurities they have about themself.

Thank you for the explaining - I thought someone else had yelled at me and maybe you were just pointing out how wrong they were. I am not stupid, just learning. Also, I have not reached goal either! I tried to update my weight and ticker tape and now it says I am at goal... good grief, I will figure this out someday soon, I hope.
I am ok with myself, I just was not going to waste my time hanging around OH if I had to duck every time I posted something. I actually have accumulated a few friends in my time here and think I will settle, for the most part, to the BOTT group.
