Back On Track Together
Whether water weathers what I want....
I think for a long time, longer than just my surgery days, my body and mind have a hard time recognizing 'thirst'. I don't often feel thirsty, except right after waking up, and right after eating.
I keep water beside me all day, every day. A nice big 32 oz plastic sippie water bottle with icey cold water within 2 feet of my lips. Yet I barely ever find myself reaching for it because I'm thirsty. Its usually when I say "Geeze, its 3 already and I barely had a sip!" And even then, I hardly get enough water in. I make it a point to drink a 16 oz water bottle before bed every night to help my water intake... but even then I'm never thirsty.
Why is it that I always seem VERY thirsty at the worst time... right after I eat something? Is my "thirst" hormone stimulated when I eat something? Does it not function the right way normally? Is this why I get dehydrated so easily all the time?
I need to figure out when my body is thirsty, because I CANNOT believe that it isn't thirsty when I haven't had anything all day long. I don't get dry mouth or an itchy throat. I don't get dry/grouch pouch or anything like that. But when its been nearly all morning and afternoon and I haven't hit the bathroom once, I know something's not quite right here.
Does anyone have different sort of triggers for thirst that aren't the 'norm'? I think I've always had this issue. I think it has a LOT to do with my kidney issues of yore. I wonder, other than forcing myself to remember, if there is a better way to recognize my thirst.
Just drink for thought.

I always have the thirst issue. I can even carry my water with me every where and find hours later I still have the same amoun****er is my main problem. I have such a hard time getting in even half of the daily amount needed. I have question since speaking of water. Do you still place a certain time on drinking water or now can you or do you take much larger drinks? I seem to be a gulper so to speak, when I drink I seem to take large drinks instead of sipping.
Good luck on the thirst issue. I can't really help with that since I am one who has to make myself remember as well.

Honestly, I'm a gulper too. I can polish off about 1/4 a water bottle in one shot. After that I sip, but it seems my first drink is always a gulp. That may be a bad habit that satisfies my thirst faster and makes me drink less?

Hey Sion,
Not much help here with your problem. I drink copius amounts of water. I dont know if I ever get thirsty because I drink ALL the time. I carry a 1 liter bottle of water with me any time I get out of my chair, even when just going to a differant room for a second. I drink between 3-6 liters of water every day.
I would think that a shot as you are looking these days you would always be thirsty
Have a great weekend!!

You made me lol, Wayne!! What a guy, thanks.
Dang you sure drink a LOT of water!! I would have thought always keeping it with me would keep me a conscious drinker. But it isn't working that way, maybe I need a half-hourly alarm to remind me to "drink something, dernit!"

I have to do my water like I do my calories - know how much I need, consume that much and get on with it - Havae to run on my "thinker" not my "feeler" My "feeler" isn't always my friend. And, yes, I do the unthinkable - I drink before, during and after eating if I want to. Now I have the lap band which is a little different that the by-pass but I've never experienced any negative consequences from breaking that rule. Everbyody's body is different and the last thing I want to do is lead anyone astray, just sharing what works for me.
