Post-op preggers?

Hi all,

I'm posting on a few different boards for information so I figured, why not try the BOTT? Anyone have any experience being post-op and pregnant? I'm settling down into our first house soon and am curious if there are any special percautions I should be attending to for pre-natal care. I'm not pregnant yet and don't expect to be for a little bit, but I am curious if there was anything special I need to prepare for. I think I've read a few earlier posts about others who were pregnant recently, so I know you're out there!

Thanks!

Hi Wayne,

You crack me up!!!  I wish I'd known you years ago so I would have figured out that pregnancy results in children and then those children grow into teenagers.

Ugh!

Hugs, Cathy

Hi Mama-to-be-someday Sion,

Awwww, a new little BOTTer some day!

I worked for a bariatric practice that did a study on post-op pregnancy.  Make sure that you are compliant with high quality, preferably bariatric formulated vitamins.  The sooner the better.  To make sure you absorb as much as possible, take either chewables or liquids.  Also, take Folate three months before you start trying to get pregnant.

You might also check with your bariatric surgeon to see if he/she has any additional recommendations depending on your medical info.

You will have a healthier pregnancy now that you have lost weight.  Post-op babies are shown to be healthier birth weights and the moms don't tend to gain as much pregnancy weight.  I don't remember the actual number stats but remember the results and outcomes we had.  Moms that had a baby before surgery that had gestational diabetes and then after surgery had a very remarkably lower change of having gestational diabetes which is awesome news.  I had gestational diabetes with both of my sons and it was lousy.

Keep up posted on your house and your new little BOTT project!!

Hugs, Cathy

That's good news. I'm not sure why folate is or why I need it, so I'll poke around google for that. Thanks for all the helpful info, Cathy!

When that day comes, will that make me a GrandBOTTmother?
