New to the group
Hi everyone, thanks for letting me join.
I am a year out on my surgery - I had the RNY Oct 21, 2008. I have around 85 pounds or so since and have come to a standstill. I have allowed myself to have things in my diet that are not appropriate which I am sure does not help. I want to get back on track. I have a husband who can eat anything and not gain a pound. I have told we cannot have those things in the house any longer. Get them when he is out and eat them then when I am not around.
I have also realized I am addicted to food and joined an FA (Food Addicts Anonymous) group. I will be working their food plan of no sugar and no flour and am sure that will help as well. I have been abstinate from sugar and flour for two days now.
I still follow my nuts suggestion of not drinking a half hour before or a half hour after eating and I am weighing and measuring my food. I do my best with getting all my protein and take all my vitamins. I hope I am off to a good start. Getting side tracked is so easy and the holidays are coming up.

You're off to a great start. It is important during your first year to year and a half that you maximize your surgery by sticking to the basics. Your malabsorption is at the highest it will ever be so losing weight now is the easiest and quickest. Plus, you are creating the healthy habits that will allow you to maintain your weight. It is a saying that is used often but I've adjusted it for our purposes - "Nothing tastes as good as being thin and being on track feels!"
Stay off the sugar because it is a cyclical food. The more you eat, the more you want and that cycle continues. Once you're off of it for a period of time, it should get easier. You've already created a wonderful momentum of two days. You go Girl!!

WELCOME Denise I'm so glad you have chosen to join us. Don't be shy , if you are comfortable post often and allow us to share your journey. Please let us know how we can be most helpful.
Many of us have found it helpful to review the guidelines Cathy has posted for us at the beginning of our discussion page. It is so easy to stray from them and yet, if we are to be successful at losing and maintaining we MUST follow them - not just the ones we "like" but all of them. There's always the temptation to go back to our old way of thinking that after we lose X # of pounds we don't have to be as diligent following the guidelines - nothing could be further from the truth! (We are so good at fooling ourselves LOL )
Remember, we've all been where you are or we would be here. I hope you find this site as helpful as I have in getting back/staying on track. These are the most caring, supportive, understanding and accepting folks I've ever found. I call them my angels in disguise as humans
