Hi guys,

I am desperate for some help. I had my surgery in 2005 and I only lost about a 100 pounds. I am slowly gaining it back. I know what I need to do, but I do not know how to go about it. I hate exercising, But i know it is very important in losing the weight. I am 21 years old, a senior in college (im very busy) and I was recently diagnosed with MS. Losing the weight is crucial at this point. I hope you guys can help.

I know how scary this must be for you.  You have got to get back to basics.  You have got to!
Start right now......don't give up this gift that has given you your life back.  You are so young.....YOU can do this!  The surgery is only a small part of this.  You have got to get back to your committmet to YOU.  Love, Vicky

ONLY lost 100 pounds???????????????  Good grief, that's wonderful!!!!!!!!!  Don't know how much you wanted to lose, but 100 pounds is great (wouldn't it feel good to be at that weight today>)  Remember, our problems is about .01% physical (our weight problem that is) and 99.99% mental/emotional.

How to go about doing it - well, first of all, don't let "wanting to" have ANYTHING AT ALL to do with actually doing it.  If you "wanted to", you'd already be doing it - right?

We can help with caring, support, understanding and acceptance - those are tools just as our surgery is a tool - we then have a choice - do we pick up the tools we have and use them or do we continue on our self-destructive things-as-usual path.  The choice is ours.  As for me, I know that these tools are what has enabled me to get back on track, stay on track (not 100% every day, but close), and maintain over time for the first time in my life.  This is the 3rd time in my life I've lost 100 pounds but it is the first time I've not begun to regain the weight after less than a month.  (and one of the times I was a graduate student in college)  YOU CAN DO THIS!  I believe in you - won't you please join me and believe in yourself?

Don't be shy , please let us know how we best can help you.  If you're comfortable, post often and allow us to share your journy.  It has helped a number of us to read - really read not just look at words - the guidelines Cathy has posted for us at the beginning of our discussion page.  Perhaps you would like to give that a try.  Remember, we've all been where you are and done what you've done or we wouldn't be here.

WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER - YES WE CAN

Thank you for responding. I know it is all mental. It feels like an addiction. I guess after struggling with the weight for my entire life, I have lost some hope. However, I am aware that It is a mental thing.

I will be looking around theboard and reading everybody elses story; I'm sure It'll help.

Hi there

for me I think it is an addiction - to food.  But unlike other addictions where you can give up 100% we have to learn how to live around and with food without allowing that addiction to take over again.

Youve done this before, which means you (and I ) and can this again.  how much have you regained?  How much do you need to lose?

Stick around this board and you'll find you wil get motivated by the inspirational people here who are going through exactly what you are.

Believe in yourself and take it one meal at a time.

hugs, Ruth
