Back On Track Together
Practice what I preach
Last evening, I had the privilege of covering a bariatric support group as the facilitator. The facilitator who usually does this group was out taking care of her father. This group is especially near to my heart as I used to attend this group as a new post op...
As I love teaching (its what I do in my regular work), the idea was inspiring. Then I found out the topic....exercise. I thought, ugh...I hate exercise...I really do. It isn't my friend and I have never embraced it the way that I should have post op. But I took the challenge, put together some great handouts (being a nurse helps also!!) and forged ahead.
I extoled the virtues of exercise...decreased blood pressure, better fitting clothes, a better mood...well you get it. I sat there sharing with people that they had to "do something"
It was a great group and I left it inspired to do something. anything. As my tag line says....no excuses, just do it.
Well, it is time to put my money where my mouth is....I have made plans to go on a bike ride this weekend since my DH and DS's will be out of town at a baseball tournament. And, I ordered some DVD's that I wanted to try to see if that would help.
So, thanks Dana (the group facilitator) for the opportunity to practice what I preach and get my ar*e moving!!

Hi Anjanette,
Congratulations on your facilitation. I manage the OH Support Group Leader Program so if you are interested in joining our Leader Team, let me know. As you've experienced, being involved in a support group is wonderful. It provided me more accountability. It is hard to talk the talk if you aren't walking the walk!! Congrats!!
Good luck on the bike ride and your dvd's. Are they exercise dvd's? If so, let me know which ones you like and didn't like.
